On the basis we would be hoping our future first round is around picks 15-18, I'd be happy that latter offer. Nothing higher involving the first round though.

Both that article and the one by Mark Robinson say we haven’t offered pick 5 so far which is rather surprising.

One angle I haven't considered is that the swans management underestimated how much the bombers wanted Daniher and / or where going to play hard ball. They may have actually been thinking along similar lines to most of us and have now been backed into a corner.

Do we give in or stand firm?

If that means that pick 9 and a swap our our 2020 1st rounder and their 2nd rounder, it's not all that different than 9 + 25. Both net out to around a pick 3 for Daniher. This seems to establish that our guys have valued Daniher at around a pick 3, about the same as the compo for Dangerfield and Lynch and are not likely to go further (I hope).

That sounds about right, especially given that St Kilda are offering something equivalent to a pick 3 + a late 1st rounder for Hill. I would prefer not to do the deal, but recognise that most of these things do get done in the end, so just want it not to be a shocker.

Unloading our 2020 1st rounder is no big deal as many rate Campbell a top 10 pick, so next year is more about accumulating points than having high picks.

Agree with all of that, although I'm happier to do the deal in general (so long as we're not being fleeced).

I initially underestimated the safety net of free agency. It's true that Essendon are bound to match our offer and we'd have to try to trade again in 12 months. If he is fit and carves up next year, he'll be more costly (and might not want to come). Now or never (unless he doesn't play next year and we still want him).

Yes, but heartening. It might be being held back as a final offer, but presumably not packaged with 9 given that would be such a big increase to our offer.

We would still lose one spot. For example, if we wanted Serong at pick 5 but traded down to pick 6, GWS could take him at pick 5 before matching a Green bid at pick 6.

Given that we are now reaching the 11th hour of Trade Time it would seem that the Swans won't be offering up any players to Dodo as it now seems too late for player visits and medical checks. It will be trade picks or nothing. I'm very happy with how they've handled the impossible demands of Dodo. We may/may not get Daniher this year or next but at least we did not bend over and take it from them. We can't mortgage our future like this.

Yes, your're right. My mistake. Only works if Melbourne or Adelaide bid on Green. But still could be worth it, depending on how we rate that part of the draft, such as, if we are happy with any of Serong, Flanders, Young and Kemp.

The only player that should have been on the table imho for Daniher was Papley. But we haven't attempted to play hard ball with him by saying 'we will get you to a Melbourne club' so I can't see that starting now. I will be disappointed if we give up two first round picks for him, but relived if we don't give up any quality players as well. That would really be mortgaging our future at a point where we can't really afford to.
