The Age coverage of the trade period has been excellent. Here is an important tidbit of information:

"Just so you know, clubs aren’t allowed to officially lodge a trade (and its paperwork) until 3pm on deadline day [to keep TV partners happy]"

A caller on trade radio from Canberra just called in

Presenting the idea a few of us suggested ie

Swans 5 and 44 to geelong
Geelong 14 and 17 to the swans
Geelong then pick up Jenkins with 44 and move up the draft to pick 5

Swans give 9 (paps trade pick) and 14 to the bombers for Daniher

Swans still have 17 and 25 in the draft and some late picks for trades

Meanwhile the hawks have brought in sam frost for their backline and Jono Patton for their forward line for peanuts and a bit of cap spend

Only a bombers fan that is on the good stuff (maybe found the leftover of Hird's stash) truly would think they are anywhere near winning a flag any time soon imho.

12 wins 3 seasons in a row suggests they are pretty close to a ceiling with their current group imho.

There is no proof whatsoever about which party initiated contact about moving clubs. But the talk radio team, for the most part, have stuck to the line that Sydney initiated the move so the onus is on Sydney to get the deal done. It makes far more sense to me that it was Daniher's management that let it be known that Joe was interested in going to Sydney. And Joe must have been pretty unhappy where he felt he couldn't wait another year when he would have had the right to free agency. RFA or not, Essendon cannot force Joe to sign another contract. One way or another he would get to the Swans. And even if he doesn't, you just let it go and move on. We will save a couple of high draft picks, get a couple of good players and things will be fine. It's probably 50/50 which outcome would be better.

The main thing is to determine a fair value for Daniher and Papley and stick to what is best for the Swans. There's not obligation to do either trade. There's no embarrassment in not doing a deal. The embarrassment comes from doing a dumb deal.
Yes, agreed. (Although I think you mean Sam, not Mark.)

            Read this:

But that trade offer was only placed on the table “five seconds before” the teams finally came to an agreement, according to Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro.
“They were adamant they were going to keep him,” Dodoro told Fox Footy’s The Trade Lowdown.
“They had actually cleared out a few players over the last couple of days, and it was well documented they had a salary cap issue, but they cleared the money and said right, we want to keep him.
“But Dylan was hellbent on getting to us which was great, and they did the right thing, we just want to thank them as well for - not putting up a big fight, but we got there in the end.”
Yes. This was Dodo's take on the Dylan Shiel trade last year when the shoe was on the other foot. And this is how the trade went down. Is there something familiar sounding in the details?

Shiel secured his trade from GWS to Essendon, with the Giants receiving pick nine and a future first-round pick in exchange for the player and a future second-round pick.
Who is worth more? A healthy elite midfielder or a full forward who's only played 11 games in the past 2 years?

And the hypocrisy of it all. Hopefully KB has this as one of his talking points.

Now it's Dodoro's chance to do the right thing, to quote him. Will he, or won't he?

I think that there's a good chance now that not only will the deal for Daniher not be done today, but that he will never get to us. So many variables looking ahead to next year. Personally I'm content with sticking to our guns. I really don't care what the Melbourne media stay. Its not embarrassing to walk away from a poor deal.

perhaps we should concentrate on Paps. Although I would prefer he stays but if he wants out clear him, if Melb come chasing for him with a lower pick give it to them. they need speed. Then use both picks within top ten.

We can't trade 5 and 9 now; we won't be taken seriously in trades again.

We made two much lower offers. Suggests we could be stared down.

Pick 48 = 302 pts. 56+63=306 pts. Carlton probably trying to help getting this deal done so we can move on with the Papley trade, now that we have his replacement. Sensible. Or maybe it is 56+54 to give Carlton an extra 100 pts as a down payment for getting pick 9 for Paps.

In any case, Taylor is a good pickup at that price.

Daniher should fall for 9 + the 2020 pick swap. We can go to the draft with picks 5, 25, probably 32 and 44. Not bad. And we should add to our 2nd and 3rd round 2020 picks in preparation for matching bids on Campbell and Gulden. It should be fine, unless Dodo spoils the party.

Taylor for a bargain. Good use of junk picks.
