So Richmond got 81 pts from turnovers out of a total of 89.....which means they only got 8 pts from offensive set up's. We basically did their work for them, not discounting their pressure etc but basically, we made it much easier for them.

On the other hand, we scored 35 pts from turnovers out of a total of 67, so we got 32 pts from offensive set ups. So we did better than Richmond when we went into our forward line with the ball, 22 less times than them mind you, outscoring them 35-8 in this area.

If we can:

1/..... clean up our transition out of defence ie: be more instinctive and move it on quickly WITH LESS ERROR.... and

2/..... keep the ball in our forward line more after turning it over or scoring a behind, ie; structure up better (man on man), just work harder, tackle more (and make then stick FFS!),

we should be more successful.....but it seems finals are not on this years radar. This year is different to 2017.

Yes he was injured last year, yes he is brave and yes he is possibly played out of position, however he is barely going.

This is a guy who was meant to be a 'gun' and was one of the players we wanted to keep over Mitchell.

A lot of heat needs to be put on Mills to stand up and go from a completely average player to something half decent.

The overall issue isn't our kids, Longmire or Jones constantly turning over the ball (which he does), it is in fact our mid tier, decent players are horribly out of form.

Reid, Parker, Mills, Hewett and Sinclair.

All are potential guns and all are absolutely crucial to our team. They have played about 3 good games between them this year (including Sinclair v nothing when we played Carlton).

Exactly! But Mitchell was a midfielder as Mills was supposed to be but where is he playing? Not his fault, the blame here is solely on the Coaches.

Agreed! Totally overrated. Some said he was better than Heeney when at the academy. Now he is lucky to be In the side whilst Heeney is one of the stars in the team.

After coming home and digesting the game, I'm going to look at the positives. Yes our skills were bad and we turned the ball over but we never gave up. The effort was there and we kept trying.

I thought Rampe was fantastic tonight.

I liked the look of Rowbottom. He seemed to read the play well. He got tired towards the end and was cramping.

Clarke had a much better game.

Mills had a shocker.

Aliir makes the easy things look so hard.

The booing of Buddy was for a combination of things. He bumped his opponent to the ground after the ball had gone out of bounds. The Richmond supporters around me went nuts even though there was nothing in it. (They are probably used to Rance getting frees for that ????). Then in the last quarter he was given a free when he had his opponent around the neck. So of course they weren't happy with that.

I just hope we can turn things around next week (coz I’m also bringing 10 guests with me to the SCG ????) we need to get the home ground advantage back. We have the talent. Could it be that we have too many quite high profile ex players in the coaches box with differing views? Do we need a new head coach? Not all ex amazing players make good coaches. We show glimpses of brilliance, then have absolute shockers. Then again, we’ve been spoilt by this team in the last 14 years, we’ve always made the finals, 5 grand finals and won two of them, we can’t have it all, all of the time I guess. I dunno I’m rambling, disappointed but still love em regardless.

Always enjoy reading all the analysis. Thanks. Every player out there would love to come home with a win. So they will all be analysing every move (or lack of) they executed.
A lot of them would probably have preferred to be holidaying with their family at Easter like I’m doing at Emerald Brach, NSW.
My nephew is a tennis nut.
He got out a documentary called THE STROKES OF GENIUS, which traces the backstories of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with the pinnacle being ‘The greatest tennis match ever played”, the 2008 Wimbledon Final.
It was just brilliant and a fine illustration of how hard you have to work (even with prodigious talent) to get to the top and also how hungry.
They both do not require any more money, but they are both still as hungry as ever.
C’mon Swans, get hungry, catch up to the speed of the game.

I know I could be accused at clutching at straws a little with this suggestion but Sam Wicks seems to be going ok at NEAFL, in particular with his tagging and tackling. He can also sniff out a goal. Given the importance of locking a ball into one's forward 50 and stopping rebound out if defence, I wonder whether young Sam might be a better option than Ronke?

Kieran Jack had been poor in the NEAFL before being selected in seniors and last night he was terrible, especially his finishing. He has his milestone now so hopefully he will go back to reserves.

How many times didwe get the ball forward and there was Buddy 1 out amongst 2-3. Where in the hell is the rest of our forwards - oh yeah playing team defence.

Exactly the sort of thing I meant by "clumping". The spread of the Richmond players is textbook stuff, and we look as good as they do when we spread and go. But that leads to the other big minus - finishing. We need to stop relying on long bombs so frequently.

My 9 year old son made that observation last night. He asked me why there were always 2-3 players on buddy and why his team mates weren't helping like his team mates help him on Saturdays. I told him it was a combination of coaching tactics and his team mates not trying hard enough. He said his coach and team mates wouldn't let that happen in his games...............

Were the turnovers the cause, or a symptom of our problems? If we have the ball in our defensive area, are under enormous pressure, and have no forward structure ahead, we’re left to try and pinpoint short kicks which half our side don’t have the skill level to execute.

We’re not Richmond, but at least they have a plan to move the ball forward which suits their personnel and can rely on.

Is a 22-2 i50 tackle count a reflection of our lack of forward pressure, or that it doesn’t go in there often enough - and when it does we don’t have a structure in place there to have sufficient numbers to actually apply pressure.

The best thing that could happen from here is that we finish low and get a good draft pick - the likes of St Kilda, Fremantle, Gold Coast etc starting well helps that as well.

But it is a problem for the club to be playing a defensive, low-scoring brand of football AND losing consistently - crowds this year, and then membership and sponsorship next year would be extremely vulnerable.

Predictable and quite boring.
Swans get it in defence, two or three sink kicks often questionably under 15m then the bomb, turnover, opposition swarm, goal.
