There are plenty of other clubs turning low draft picks and rookies into great players.

What makes you think we are any better at it?
I don't understand what you are saying. Most of those are players our football department have developed successfully. Even if we're not traveling well at the moment when you look at the larger body of evidence you'd be inclined to think there's a different explanation than our coaches are no good or have suddenly lost what talent they had.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

Fair point. He'd languish as a forward pocket/half forward for the first 4 or so years in his career! History doesn't lie!

Question was raised OTC tonight how the Sydney market would be impacted if the Swans bottomed out over the next few years. The panel consensus (except for Jonathon Brown) was the Swans have built up a good core support over the last 15 years and are no different to any Melbourne club in same scenario, in that there will be some drop off but not anything drastic.

I'm saying that although the Swans may have done well in the past at developing players, recently they've been less successful, and it could be argued are worse at it than other clubs (as evidenced by the flourishing of our alumni).

When you say "our coaches" the current group are completely different (other than Horse and Blakey) to those of even 2 years ago. We may have lost "what talent" we had because we lost those coaches.

Is it not possible that we aren't coaching players as well as we were a few years ago?

Brown too busy coming out with his clichés (Don't you worry about that) etc to have any original thoughts.
Oh, and to have the manufactured conflict with Lyon.
This show has jumped the shark.
            Over.

We have 4 more Friday night games this year - I don't think anyone would have predicted the Swans falling so far this year. Yet I can see some of the Melbourne centric media bemoaning the Swans having Friday night games.

On current form I can't see where our next win is coming from. Perhaps against LOLNorf but they were quite convincing against Carlton.
No doubt Eddie will keep whining until the Swans are stripped of any high pick for specious reasons. When the Swans were picking up a couple of spoons and high picks in the 1990s, boy did the Melbourne-based coaches whine - before they went right in and poached the Swans' best players when their contracts ended.

I expect the Swans will win a few games, but with senior players dropping like flies it's looking a bit tough. Cunningham is the latest casualty, out for six weeks.

Nick Smith probably out for season with more hamstring surgery.

What a shame for us and Nick. We have really missed him down back. Hope he recovers a lot sooner than that!

Paranoia is starting to occur with the Melbourne media after watching an exchange between Julian de Stupid & John Ralph on Vic biased AFL tonight on Fox Footy, where they implied Vic clubs would be distraught if Swans finished last thereby gaining access to either one of two highly rated draft kids who are regarded as better than Sam Walsh.

And if Carlton finish last? Which will send the best player to Adelaide (as Carlton have already traded their first round pick to the Crows).

Seems a little odd, given that recent years have seen Raynor, McCluggage, Schache and Boyd (albeit now back in Vic), Andrew Brayshaw, Adam Cerra, Josh Kelly, Tim Taranto etc etc drafted from Victoria in the first few picks to south-east Queensland, Perth or western Sydney.

How many players did John bring into the team? It was pretty much Roosy's team. John tweaked the game plan (and did a great job in doing so) but the longer he has coached the more the team becomes his as players drafted/traded under Roosy leave.

With John it started with a bang and has become a whimper.

The simple question is, even taking into account our injuries, are we the worst list in the AFL. I would say no we are bottom 8 but not as bad as we are going.
