The rule just talks about intentionally shaking a goal/behind post; it doesn't actually mention shaking as a byproduct of someone climbing the post to do... whatever the hell Rampe was doing? That would be my (possibly very weak) argument.

I think it happened like this:
In the last quarter with 7:05 to go Sam contested a pack mark that resulted in Hayward’s pickpocket goal. Watching it frame at a time he lands on his left leg but proceeds to fall initially onto his left hip before rolling onto his back. At 6:28 to go, Reid can be seen in the corner of the shot rubbing his left hip. 6:16 to go he is rubbing the front of the top of his thigh a few seconds later he is positioned toward the centre of the ground walking ok but looking like he wants to come off, but a second later a close up shows him with a flexed posture at his hips (often implicating a groin or hip flexor). 6:02 to go and Jude commentates that “Sam Reid is coming off, hobbling”. 5:44 to go seen supine on the boundary with Matt Cameron starting to asses what looks to be either at or just anterior/forward of his greater trochanter - looking potentially like a contusion/“corky” rather than a strain of the hip flexor. The trochanter is quite superficial, and prone to contusions if you land on them. The bursa can or ITB can be easily irritated. At 4:24 to go in the last quarter they cut to Sam laying in his right side and using what looks to be a handheld massage machine on the greater trochanter of the left hip. 4:08 Reid on the boundary rubbing his own proximal lateral thigh at (just) above the greater trochanter while abducting/externally rotating a little. 0:19 seconds to go he is standing & walking boundary side (though he promptly sits). Standing again after the siren. Walking onto the ground ok after the final miss. No noticeable antalgic gait, no ice, no crutches (but they wouldn’t have had much time to bother with that during a frenetic finish). So I’d hypothesise a mild contusion (based on about 10-15 seconds of scrutinised footage - for what that’s worth, which isn’t a lot but it was at least fun attempting to diagnose).

Saw Parker (close friend of Reid) looking concerned talking to Reid after the match. Reid was indicating his hip area and looked pretty depressed. So I’m a little fearful that the injury might lead to some time out for Reid. However I hope goswannies diagnosis proves correct.Comment

Rampe is the teams larrikin (despite his captain responsibility, this word has three ‘’I”s btw) and plays on the edge.
After a free was paid against him the ump told him to throw the ball back which was at his feet, he leaves the ball there and mimics a throw, the ump goes and picks it up and returns it to the Dons player.
That was 50m right there.
He’s funny as, but might need to leave some pranks for practice sessions and the sheds especially pole dancing on the goal post.Comment

That's why we love footy!
Gutsy, four quarter performance. We were led by our two contested ball cornerstones, Kennedy and Parker, who both had vintage games. I thought Joey set the tone.
I also liked:
- breakout game by Blakey: so smart, quick, hard, and a great leap; a winner
- Dawson's best game - his marking was important at both ends, and what a beautiful kick for goal
- McCartin, contested mark king. The lad is a beauty and made some tough and important plays
- Thurlow's best game as a Swan. He was clean with it and his long kick will become important.
- Another tough game by Sinclair; there was no doubt he had the clearance numbers this week, Nico.
- I thought O'Riordan played a good game, took the game on and was tough when under pressure. Showed he deserves a shot at it at the level. Fox showed that, too; made some good plays (7 tackles).
- Improved games from Melican and Mills, and Hayward continues to grow at this level.
Really enjoyed Bartel's commentary - great insights, balanced.Comment

I get the impression that Rampe is the team larrinkin and makes the team have a chuckle, even when things aren't quite going our way. Every team needs one of these. Plus he just so happens to be the best defender in the league imo. Can play tall, small, take contested marks, win at ground level and is a beautiful kick. BUT that was pretty crazy climbing the post and should've cost us the game. I'm glad it didn't and more than happy to cut him a bit of slack!Comment

Hmmm… I was a bit worried that Ollie’s physical game might not develop (at least in his first few years) - but I reckon that side of his game has stepped up this year. I’m really liking watching his progress & (forgetting about lions game) I think he’s been amongst the better of the younger brigade this year.Comment

Agree wholeheartedly! He borders on complete disrespect to the umpires quite often which surely couldn't help when involved in a 50/50 free kick situation... I know we all hate the umpires and they do give us a raw deal and they should be professional at all times, and think that most probably are, but they are also human and to me it's similar to the situation of getting pulled over by the police. Will you have a better outcome of you are polite/humble when dealing with them or being a smart ass abusive @@@@@??? I think he needs to pull his head in just a little...

This isn't just off of watching 1 game either as I, like most on here watch every single Swans game (even when we are playing horribly! Lol).
I'm happy for players to show emotion and actually would encourage it if they feel we are getting a raw deal! But I also feel that there's a way to do it too, and it's not calling umpires "little girls" and other derogatory things that Dane says and does on a weekly basis when dealing with the umpires.

As a side issue to the Rampe goal post thing, my stepson reckons the siren went before Myers marked the ball. I've watched the moment a few times and feel the mark and siren might have happened simultaneously. Can anyone with superior technology tell which came first? Essendon might have actually had a shot for goal that they shouldn't have.Comment

Otherwise, one of my favourite match day experiences ever. Went in with low expectations, and didn't realise how much I wanted them to win until the Dons kicked that first goal and one of their supporters three rows behind me starting amping up. Made my decision to put a hard tag on that supporter and take him out of the game. Result: I can't speak this morning. My voice is gone.
Sinclair was terrific last night. Just at it all night, chin up, chest out. Kizza was well behind the pace of the game, but Thurlow was clean, McCartin and Blakey fully involved, Fox impressive, O'Riordan paid back the Adelaide 100 metre penalty with interest, and, notwithstanding the negative comments above, Almir was outstanding. Always in the right place, working hard to provide an option. Seems to me that he has been instructed to punch in contested situations, and agree that it would be great if he could develop a contested mark, but otherwise he stood up. Mellican seems to have shaken off the early season/post injury rust, too.
It's not necessarily a turning point, and I don't think that we should be thinking about the eight, but it was a match in which the Swans, after a rusty few minutes at the start, played some great, interesting, and on occasion, lucid football.Last edited by O'Reilly Boy; 11 May 2019, 09:34 AM.Comment
