He played the wing perfectly. He hardly went forward or back. Stayed on the wing and often was on his own. Now shows a lot of courage.

I loved his game today. He loves to take it on and more often than not uses the ball well..has a great knack of finding space too.

Completely agree with your broader comment. There will be tough days ahead, but unlike some of the ever rebuilding teams of the league, it's clear that the parts are beginning to mould together nicely. A lot of work still to go, but we have had some great signs the last month of what the future looks like. And if today is anything to go by, we will continue to be spoilt by our wonderful footy club.

Oh and Blakey will be a superstar, that is all that needs to be said.

        Passion personified!
Looking from the outside Papley appears to be the heart and souls of the team. I'm sure he's not alone but he seems to have a drive and enthusiasm that can't be matched. Somewhat similar to what Kirk and Kelly meant to the team when playing.

We had 26 scoring shots from 46 inside 50s. At one point it was 22 from 33. I don’t remember the Weagles getting (m)any intercept marks in defence.

Reckon Steve Johnson is doing ok with the forward line!

          I love that. Priceless!

Loved seeing Buddy back to his best ????. What about that goal after the siren?? The reaction of the coaches in the box as they bent over to follow the kick was priceless!

Papley is like the energizer bunny! He doesn't stop.

The backline was great and had to adjust to losing 3 players.

We finally kicked over 100 points!

It was nice to enjoy a game and not stress out ????.
That Buddy goal to smear the richest icing on the cake is the moment of the season so far. I've watched the video, including the coaches box 'crouch', at least 15 times.

Yep, excellent footwork in traffic and elite acceleration. He was getting caught in those situations in his first couple of years, now burning them. Like Shiel but a decent kick.

Bloody great game by Aliir, today; especially in the air. Snaffled everything, very clean. Love to see him do so well.

Tom was fantastic, however from where I sat, Aliir was BOG , he reads the play brilliantly and is so clever . He’s an awesome talent .

To me the most pleasing aspect of the win was our centre clearance work. Getting the ball in fast gives Buddy and Reid greater opportunity and the WCE defence was at sixes and sevens when we won the centre clearance. I hope they tell Heeney to roost the footy at centre clearances when clear, rather than turn back into the play and get fancy with a hand ball. Gets himself into too much trouble.

So many great performances but Tom Papley was the man for mine. Just superb. So many other notable performances and great to see Bud getting some good touch.

It's wins like that today which tell me our future has a lot to like about! Great stuff mighty swannies!
Yes, Papley was my best too. And all the other notable performances would take too long to list. Though I did think that Rampe played one hell of a 150th. Kennedy looked like getting off the leash, for about five minutes in the first quarter, but apart from that, Ramps was superb.

And one thing that surprised me with his performance, was according to the tracker, he was the equal fastest player
on the field. I know he's quick, but I never really think that he's going to be the quickest.

Actually, the equal fastest player surprised me even more: Dan Menzel. From watching the NEAFL, I knew that he has freakish skills, but my mental image of him, was of beat up veteran, getting the ball by using football smarts; not of someone who is actually quick.

Yes, when our opponents launch the ball into their forward line, I usually quickly scan who we have back. If I see Aliir somewhere near the ball's general landing area, I always feel more comfortable.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

We (mrs d and I) couldn't get to the game, were already committed to the Opera House where our younger son (an Eagles fan) was singing in a Beethoven program. At the end of the second item mrs d checked the AFL and got the result. Our boy then opened the last section of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Song of Joy. I've heard of happenstance but that takes the cake. And outside as I write, the kookaburras are laughing their heads off!

I'm eagerly looking forward to the replays but by all accounts this was a win for the ages, especially after all those injuries. It will rank with the amazing win against Port - was it 2003?

After today Menzel will most likely lose his spot again if a couple come back in after the bye. I'll be disappointed if he does as even though he has been fairly quiet as I think he'll only improve with time and needs to settle in and get used to his teammates. The man has so much skill and talent and I really feel he will add another dimension to our forward half if we just persist!

Well, you must be so proud of him singing at the Opera House . Bravo !

However. what led him to the dismal abyss ?

I don't know, and I'm not sure he knows himself! My hunch is that back when we followed Rugby League, we lived in Parramatta's area and he cheered the blue and gold. But he introduced both parents, one by one, to the great game. When we moved to Melbourne he took his mum to the MCG, which was enough to get her interested! Then he took me to Windy Hill to watch the Eagles play the Bombers (what a suitable name that has turned out to be!), as it happened on the day Sheedy had the windsock tied down. So we began to learn that having members of the same family following different teams can have a very civilising influence!

Agree. I think he just needs as much game time as he can get. Keep him in.
