Carlton are not trading Walsh. Forget about it.

Although every club would like to have Papley, I don't think Carlton will be so interested this year. Jack Martin has worked out very well. Michael Gibbons is a regular in the side and playing well. I don't know why Zac Fisher isn't playing. He's not on the injury list. Maybe with Betts still playing, there's no room for Fisher, who is quite a good player and deserves to be in the side.

When Charlie Curnow returns from injury they will be a tall forward side, with Curnow, McKay and Casboult. I don't think Papley fits all that well at Carlton.

    I think Papley is staying.

I don't have a HS subscription, but the Roar posted the top 100 paid players. There was only 1 Josh Kennedy on the list. I wonder which one it is. Did the HS specify?

I think the HS has pieced it together from what is publicly available (people on here seem to know Buddy’s deal for example), agents, clubs and other bits of information e.g. some players are known to be in the top pay bracket via free agency etc.

But I’m sure there is a fair bit of guesswork in there and what about the incentive component of player contracts, or does that account for the $50k spread?

I couldn't see a Josh Kennedy in the Herald Sun list.

Anyone added up the Richmond players to see how much that comes to?

Ugg, you're a numbers man, maybe do every team?? :-)

Charlie Constable set to request a trade at the end of the year

Why young Cat is set for a likely trade request: Sam Edmund

Constable has been told he can no longer play in the same Geelong midfield as Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield – setting the scene for a likely trade request at seasons end.

Constable, the No.36 pick in the 2017 national draft, completed a one year apprenticeship in the VFL in 2018 before last year making a bright start to his career by racking up 31 disposals and a goal in only his second game to earn a rising star nomination.

He averaged 23.2 touches in his first six appearances.

Yes please - exactly the sort of profile we should be targeting if you ask me if he was to be available and interesting in moving to Sydney.

Certainly worth considering but isn't the knock on Constable his disposal? We have Clarke already. Ludwig?

Did check those numbers , averaged around 31k at home games last year . Down from 34k previous 2 seasons and 41k in 2016 !

It's good but not great. I don't think Marvel or the MCG are any better. The SCG doesn't have that nice concourse level that Giants stadium
has where you can just walk around and/or buy something and still see the game and not block anyone's view but few Australian stadiums do.
The "food" offering at the SCG is pretty poor. But once you're in your seat and the game is on, then it's fine. I don't think a 2,000 people
per home game drop off last year from 2018 was too bad. It's like a 6% or 7% drop. There are always going to be people whose attendance
depends on how well we are going. You know.... soft.

What is “Milker” Papley worth? Reported Charlie Cameron is close to signing a new 4-5 year deal around $750k per season.

I could never think of the reason I like Giants stadium, but that may be it. I like that you can take a leisurely walk around the whole ground and still see the game unfold before you.
And the food is vastly superior than the SCG slops.

Apart from the new stand, the SCG just has a feeling of being "tired". Its a dark and dingy rabbit warren to move around. The staff are working on a "least effort" basis, and the food could kill you. But the views are good once you get to your seat*

                      * - Except, ironically, in the new stand, which is too shallow sloped.

                        Chart time!

Historically, S.C.G. attendance is strongly-associated with success or the anticipation/perception of success, often linked to recruitment of a big name player.

We can see for example, increased attendance in: 1986-87 (the "Capper years"), 1995-97 (Lockett, Grand Final appearance), 2005-06 (Grand Finals) and 2014 onwards (the "Buddy years").

The 2000s are interesting: fairly consistent apart from a big drop in 2002 (Eade-Roos transition), and the next lowest median is 2012! There is a very low outlier that year - 13505 for the Dogs game Round 10. I suppose a lot of our "bigger games" were at ANZ in that era.

I don't think there's much evidence that falls in attendance are venue-related.

Can you overlay membership figures over the graph. Ive always wondered about relationship of membership to crowds

Yes the home game attendances during the last five years have been very consistent. The jump and subsequent drop off after the 1996
GF appearance shows we had a few "theatre goers" making an appearance (and a swift exit) back then.
Re the food at the SCG. Put it this way ; the catering contract business is a standard bearer for the "race to the bottom" concept.

I was hoping we'd target him last off season! What I've seen of him he looks like a perfect Kennedy replacement long term! Surely our recruitment team would have looked at him and maybe don't agree?
