The Herald-Sun have published a list of the 100 highest paid players in the AFL. Interesting reading.

Buddy is our number 1 at close to $1.5m, then Heeney, Parker, Rampe, JPK, Papley, Mills, Lloyd.
Darcy Moore is on less than Dane Rampe, Daniher on similar $ to Tom Mitchell which is a fair bit less than Parker.Comment

From my reading of RWO, I had somehow come to the understanding that Sam Reid was supposed to be on big money - was he not on the list at all?The Herald-Sun have published a list of the 100 highest paid players in the AFL. Interesting reading.

Presumably Papley has had the value of his long contract upgraded.Comment

He got a relatively high value contract for his first long term contract with us back in the day, but no doubt it has stagnated significantly since then - so he has probably dropped off somewhat by now, as he has never been able to stay on the park enough to get that big next contract that would have kept him in the upper echelon of players."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Papleys deal is more than I thought it would be which is even more a reason to dig the heels in if he asked for a trade.
Its actually good foresight by Sydney that contract, cos if you told me 2 yrs ago Paps was going to be in our top 5 highest paid I would have laughed.
Agree we need to keep him but id be saying 2 Top Ten Picks in the 2021 draft or Cripps involved. Basically ending the phone call.
As far fetched as that seems asking for Cripps, they are essentiallyasking for our best player when you consider current perfomance, age etc.
He will be every bit in the Brownlow with Cripps and the Coleman.Comment

Without seeing the story, what are the journalists going on, when individual player contracts aren't supposed to be made public? I don't think any club officials would say, 'well, I know I'm not supposed to do this, but this is what our players are getting'. And if they tried to ask every player, I think most would say that it's none of their business. Maybe an agent would make a statement or two? But I don't really consider player agents to be reliable sources. The Herald-Sun have published a list of the 100 highest paid players in the AFL. Interesting reading.

2020 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel
Presumably a leak from AFL head office as I think that is the only place where contract information for all players from every club would be held.
It’s a significant breach of privacy. Shouldn’t be hard for the AFL to find the person who provided the information - and then sack them. I’d be angry if I were one of the players with my salary details splashed in the paper.
Ps: then again, if HS simply made up the salary details just shrug and move on. Though it would be annoying if you were a player whose salary had been hugely over-guessed.Last edited by Meg; 26 July 2020, 05:58 PM.Comment

Are you serious? The Herald Sun are known for many things but honesty and integrity are not normally in there. Writing stuff based on limited information is pretty standard.Comment

Correct. Saw a tweet about this by Ted Richards saying that the journalists are simply guessing and their list is opinion with no underlying facts. It's outright fabrication but it will sell newspapers to nuffies.Comment

Murdoch papers are specialists in attracting nuffies. Glad he is a Yank now although he still has a toxic influence here.Comment
