2020 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel
The key for us in this year's draft is how we use our first pick (?2). I can't see any wisdom in using it to draft another slightly built youngster to add to our fleet of pip squeaks. I think we should go hard with it to try and get a bigger body in the midfield or a ruckman. Even if it means splitting it for say late 1st rounder and an early 2nd. Adelaide will surely embark on a rebuild and one of the Crouch brothers would be more than handy. Or as mentioned Ladhams or Chol / Nankervis (late 1st rounder). We are getting killed in the middle by the better teams, in large part because the youngsters can't maintain the pressure for four quarters.
There are no ruckmen of note in this draft, a couple of rated forwards who could chop out in the ruck but no ruckmen.
No way would I be splitting pick 2, take it to the draft and get a potentially elite KP or mid, see the ESPN write up previous page. We just have to sit tight and be patient on the rebuild.
Does anyone know if we can use pick 2 and still get both Campbell and Gulden?
I asked same previously and I think that if Campbell goes top ten and gulden top 30 we would struggle with current picks to match without either going into deficit or trading in more/lower picks .
Whatever our top pick is (looks like 2,3,4) we simply must take the best available player. I'd prefer a mid, but if there's a KPP to good to overlook then we have to take them.
Talk of splitting or trading the pick is ridiculous given where the list is at
If we have to go into deficit for Campbell and Gulden so be it, they are known entities in a year when drafting is going to be particularly tricky
Uselesss for free is still useless. The 'upside' you speak of is unlikely to eventuate. He's a crock. If he comes, Paps goes and I know who most clubs would prefer at this time. Far more upside with Tom.....lets concentrate on keeping him.
Don't make the mistake of combining Papley with Daniher. Last year they were obviously linked as we needed to satisfy Essendon, but not this year.
Why would Papley leave if we got Daniher? That makes no sense at all. Might actually convince him to stay.

Correct. Whether paps goes or stays is irrelevant to us getting Daniher.
Maybe there is a long bow you could draw that daniher's salary might squeeze someone out, but I can assure you it wont be papley.
Papley will go if he's desperate to go to Victoria.
What I don't understand that is if Papley does leave (which I hope he does not), why do we not organise a Dutch auction and receive the best offer out of those that are interested?
I'm sick and tired of players dictating the places that they want to go to.
He may have legitimate reasons for going back to Victoria (eg sick parent whatever) but also needs to be cognizant of the fact that it was the Swans who took a punt on him, and thus the going market rate (which is a top 5 draft pick along with one in the early teens as a minimum needs to be paid).
Hope this all is not lost on Papley and the Swans.
Imagine just how bleak 2020 could have been. No Papley, no Stephens. An injured Daniher accompanying Buddy in the coaches box sipping on hot chocolates.
So glad we didn't blink on that one.

And, conversely, Essendon, egged on by the likes of Lloyd, totally botched it. We were offering overs.
