Well done to them. It seems to me that Wicks might be debuting soon. Laidler mentioned him positively in both his reports. If Hewett doesn't come up, we could do with somebody who seems to have developed into a tough midfielder and who's a bit of a tackling machine. Alternatively, he could be picked mainly as a small forward; which would allow Warner to have a bit more time in the middle.

Good call, especially your alternative proposal.

Wow! Very exciting. Can't remember who it was that made the call that BOC will play this year but they are one step closer to being vindicated. Was a big call - still is - hasn't played more than a few scratch matches and only been learning the game a short time - for him to play at AFL level will be remarkable. Really pleased for them both. Great stuff!

Not that surprising as it comes at no cost with both Naismith and Heeney gone for the season and with compressed turnaround coming up any fit player is in line for a game. Longmire asking for an extra two on the interchange bench as well.

I've been a big fan of Wicks since he started playing Neafl. He's tough and a whole hearted player. Opposition teams have been exiting defence to easily against us now for the last few seasons and Sam could really improve our defensive pressure in our forward 50. He's also pretty slick around goals too.

Yes, since we're going into the short turnaround period, with an already lengthy injury list, it's likely that almost everyone will get to play. Still, it's an excellent effort.

I'm looking forward to seeing him. Hopefully he'll be something like a bigger, stronger version of Tadhg.

With the shorter turn around between games, add in an injury or two... Annie's looking good for getting a game.

Wow indeed! Does look like the club is going to keep blooding young players and ensure that high draft pick as well :-)

That's a remarkable effort from BOC if he does indeed debut this year.

Not surprising that there have been some elevations but interesting that it is these two. Doesn't bode well for Amartey, Rowles and probably Reynolds. Who are our other rookies? Knoll is recovering from injury and I suspect we will retain him given our problems with ruck depth. Is Reynolds even playing? I haven't heard anything about him for some time. Is Bell a senior listed player these days? And McLean? I've lost track.

A few recent draft related articles:

Tall, athletic and versatile: 25 of the best draft prospects - top 25 prospects in alphabetical order
Top SA prospect shines, draft bolter emerges
WA key forward enhances draft stocks, possible Freo pick blitzes

Elijah Hollands, Riley Thilthorpe, Caleb Poulter, Nathan Driscoll, and Zane Trew look worthy of consideration with a top 5 pick.

I tend to think that we would use our high pick (if we have one) before the bid for Campbell unless either we can use it to get someone really good by way of trade or we want to trade out for a high pick next year. Next year is rated a stronger draft but I wonder if that won't be less significant at the very top end of the draft and that it's more the case that next year has more depth? If we could trade out a top 5 pick for, say, a later first round pick in 2021 and a decent player, might be worth considering.

Assuming, as I do, that we are going to draft Campbell and Gulden, then I think it makes sense to either draft a KPP (e.g. Thilthorpe, if he isn't taken by the Crows - almost a certainty if they wind up with two top 5 picks) or a big mid (like Hollands or Poulter, Trew and Driscoll).

We played him a lot off half back like we are now doing with Mills. My point is that perhaps we can get more value out of Mills by playing him as a midfielder? Sure we will miss his saving marks in defence but we are really being killed in the middle in most games at present.
Yep! Sadly Jones, like Mills was a wasted talent at our club played out of position due to some sort of stubborn defensive obsession our coaching staff has! I'm pretty sure we used to win more games when we had the best midfield in the league4 or 5 years ago!

We may well have a glut of good midfielders.
We are all thinking of Mills and Heeney as midfielders Ludwig but sadly and more importantly, Horse doesn't seem to be agreeing with us!

I thought Hollands was excellent in the grand final all stars game. In fact I would have had him as BOG . Only knock is that he has had a season ending injury this year and question as to wether he can recover from that but he was very good that day.

Will Phillips is probably who we want as he is regarded as the best pure midfield prospect and matched Rowell and Anderson as a bottom ager last year in the NAB league finals series. I don't care that he's only 180cm and we are also getting both Gulden and Campbell who are relatively short, we need to load up on top end midfield talent and build from there!
