hhhhmmm
im sure if Reid and Buddy were on the park more then not we wouldnt be arguing strategy
those two featuring like Cameron, Hawkins, Reiwoldt etc would mean top8
but we went top heavy
we went for @@@@ senior cheapies last few years
we went for youth
we are 15 and 16th on the table last two years
as i posed last year we are an outside chance top8 in 2021........anyone want to place a $10,000 bet otherwise .........im all in !!!!
Nope it aint going to happen via laws of probability
3 years in the wilderness might be acceptable at some clubs
not others
I have no confidence to say we will be any better then a marginal top8 team in 2022
2023 could be worse......Giold Coast, Brisvegas killing it along with traditional teams in the top8 accept us
if that is acceptable good luck
not for me"be tough, only when it gets tough"

current strategy not acceptable ?
other clubs smarter ?
I mean the hate on here for the Bombers is huge yet where are we ?
No one on here ever saids they rate the bombers or geelong which defies belief as we are 16th on the table ?

I think almost everyone on here agrees, especially after Thursday, this team is on the right path. Some patience is required but I think the payoff will certainly be worth it. I would take your bet on top 8 next year, not for 10k but for $500.
Another year of development, Heeney Joey and ( hopefully ) Buddy into that mix. I could see us pinching 11-12 wins.

No risky 10-year deals that eat up a significant portion of our salary cap. Buddy's nice to have, but he's given us nothing this year due to injury. We're in a weak position to offer decent deals for good players until Franklin retires due to the cap pressure.
Don't trade out players for less than they are worth. If Geelong could get two first-round draft picks for Kelly, we should have been able to get more for Jones than a second-round draft pick in the thirties. There are other examples.
Don't chase players at other clubs with a history of injuries. Games that Joe Daniher has played since the start of 2018: 11 (and none this year, last played 15 months ago).
Geelong have done well because they keep their list balanced and have avoided these recruitment problems.
Geelong have been consistently competitive for many years. The last time Geelong finished in the bottom 25% of the ladder was 1975 (11th of 12). Since 1975, Geelong's finishes in the bottom half of the ladder: 1977 (8/12), 1982 (9/12), 1983 (9/12), 1986 (9/12), 1988 (9/14), 1990 (10/14), 1998 (12/16), 1999 (11/16), 2001 (12/16), 2002 (9/16), 2003 (12/16), 2006 (10/16) and 2015 (10/18). Geelong's overall season records here.
Ive said for years, Geelongs record is always inflated due to only ever playing interstate teams in Geelong
This year may just suit them and Richmond with some old wise headsComment

Got to 2 GFS with Buddys deal, more than Geelong have done of late, they are the best regular season team but normally fall short come finals due to losing their home ground advantage

All clubs make recruiting mistakes and we're certainly not perfect.....but I think we're coming along nicely. I also see tangible signs of the Bloods Culture building in this young group. Exciting!Comment

I’m bewildered that Swans supporters would watch our last win and not be optimistic about our future. The fact that a person would be willing to stake $10000 on the belief that we will fail (and then presumably hope they win that bet) is something I find hard to comprehend from a true fan.
Each to their own I guess.
For some perspective:
2017 - Brisbane 18th
2018 - Brisbane 15th
I don’t have 10K to splash around but if I did I’d be backing our boys in especially after adding in pick 3/4, Gulden, and Campbell. Go bloods!Comment

There's a part of me that would like to see JPK and Bud come back for the final game this year, just so the kids can see what the Swans team looks like with them in the lineup.
Yeah the Hodge move was in the back of my mind as well. But we don't need a Hodge type as we've got Rampe as a player and McVeigh as a coach so we're covered there. The wing is the one position where we lack an onfield tutor, or even a coach really. That's what got me thinking of Smith. If not Smith, then I wouldn't mind us looking at other veteran wingers, but I think he'd fit the bill nicely, he'd be able to give us 10-15 games for a couple of seasons and he teach the kids so much. I can't think of many other free agents that would fit that bill.
I'll be surprised if he's back this year. Though he needs to get some footy into him. It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

A part of me is quite concerned about where Buddy is at. He's now been out for 12 weeks due to this right hamstring injury courtesy of a running drill at training. i think i read he's only recently starting running again, and it could be another 4 weeks away from a return. 16 weeks to recover from a hamstring seems an incredibly long time. I seem to recall players in previous decades recovering in a week or two. It was described as bad at the time though no tendon damage. This follows on from his right knee injury which made him unavailable for the opening game against Adelaide, and the two left hamstring injuries which scuppered his 2019 season.
I'll be surprised if he's back this year. Though he needs to get some footy into him.Comment

let me get this right re choke vs being in contention or on the bottom of the table where you can watch the top8 play finals on your TV ?
would you rather live a healthy life and get hit by a bus unexpectedly at some stage who knows when?
or
would you rather eat like a pig, have high blood pressure and hope you live till 80 then die due to heart disease ?
I say give yourself the best chance to THRIVE !
might not be the answer for everyone?
I might have got hit with the idiot stick 4 times instead of twice !
I DONT SEE THAT THE SWANS ARE DOING THIS VS other teams like the CATS
playing against GWS was wonderful to watch
thats not the argument
I am pushing back against our recruitment strategy the last few years as it annoys me and it appears to be well below sub optimal
i dont like it
I do like watching juniors emerge
but why cant you have both?
Some juniors emerge and some stronger acquisition of snr players that bring it not fizzle like a wet log
I acknowledged injuries in an earlier .......but there are another 15 teams ahead of us that have had serious injuries as well
There is a fair argument to say that our long list of snr players recruited the last few years has been miles off what we needed
country miles !Last edited by Auntie.Gerald; 16 August 2020, 01:10 PM."be tough, only when it gets tough"
