I've never, ever understood this to be honest.
I still think we need to go hard for another inside bull - someone like a Bruhn if we can snag them. Both Gulden and Campbell have plenty of ability on the outside too, but can rotate through the midfield. We need to get back to headier days of 2005 and 2012 when we had a range of midfielders that could roll through there, but a reliable bunch of first choice midfielders to do the grunt work. Tonight showed how much that is a huge struggle at the moment, and I think Gulden and Campbell by the sounds of it offer too much around the ground to try and make them into midfield bulls.
Another James Rowbottom style player would be perfect to be honest.
Callum was first and foremost an inside mid - it's been great that he's developed an all round game but we need his quality in the midfield from 2021 onwards.Comment

I think I see what you’re saying, not sure I entirely agree. I would say a good combination of the two is ideal. Rabbits are good when the tap is good and clean. Bulls are good when it isn’t. Often you need the Bull to get the ball out to a rabbit.
We look to have a few good young rabbits on the list ( or soon to be on the list like the academy pair) in Blakey , Florent, Stephens, but only one good young Bull prospect in Rowbottom. Maybe Warner but haven’t seen enough to I suggest he’ll make it. Could argue Mills potentially too but I think we need to accept JL loves him too much in defence to ever pull the trigger permanently on a midfield move. I wonder if Mccartin moving down back helps release Mills, once he and Rampe return?

He is a unique mix of hard at it bull and classy running midfielder. We desperately need him to stamp his authority on games more than he currently is. Lest I be accused of being harsh on him again, but I have high expectations of this lad and 12, 13 and 9 possessions the last few weeks for an inside mid is not good enough at all. For a player so evidently gifted he needs to be getting more out of himself.Comment

I’m totally confused if we need rabbits or bulls atm. If the current holding the ball stays were you can hold it for as long as you like and take on endless said tacklers we need bulls and lots of them . But if they go back to earlier in the season where you were pinged as soon as you picked it up we will need a full team of fleet footed rabbits .

Last night highlighted our poor work around clearances. Sinclair was badly beaten, especially once the ball hit the ground. Young de Konig was like an extra midfielder. JPK and Parks clearly beaten by Cripps and Walsh.
We need a contested ball winner or 2. Preferably a ruckman who can at least compete when the ball goes to ground, ideally one who is also competent with the hit outs. An inside clearance machine is also a must.
We showed that once the ball gets our, we're not to bad on the run.Comment

Once his motor grows he will be able to sustain higher output games for most of the season

I sure hope so as we are banking on him as the future of our midfield. He needs to be getting around the 30 possession mark every week in his prime. 9 possessions against the blue baggers. He has long way to go. Hope he gets there, been impressed with him this yr.Comment
