2020 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel

I also suspect that their management, want to send a motivating message to the players that survived the cull. Something along the lines of: if you don't perform, then you're out. Unfortunately, some players will probably interpret that message as: looks like management are arseholes, perhaps I'll be better off somewhere else.Comment

I don’t know what the plan is for cat b. I reckon they want to add 3 draftees and wicks to the main list at least.
So say our list is 38 main list and 4 rookies for next year. That’s 4 you need to cut right there from the main list.
So maybe they cut from the main: Ronke, brand, e Taylor, stoddart
Swap Naismith and amartey and shift O’Connor to cat a rookie
Cut Maibaum, Knoll, Rowled from the rookieComment

Maybe trade Ronke, E Taylor and Stoddart for our pick 4 for North’s pick 3. North need the manpower ( did Shaw used to coach Ronke). And we might have a chance if getting Tilthorpe then.Comment

Seems a bit extreme. While they currently have picks 2 and 10 in the first round, and an early second rounder, they don't have another pick until the fourth round. So, to replace those that they've culled, the either have to get lucky at the bottom end of the draft and the rookie draft, or trade players in. I'm not sure how attractive an option North would be, for players open to changing clubs, since they're now probably favourites for next year's wooden spoon.Comment

11 out so far is a big cut by Norf. They surely can’t replace all those via the draft. Maybe they reckon other clubs DFAs will be better than those 11 (plus any they trade out: Brown, Polec etc.)
They’ve got a new list manager and have already got Corr as a RFA. I’m sure they have other targets.
It would make some sense for Shaw to have his eye on some “fringe” Swans players.
Going to be a very interesting trade, fa and draft period. A big comfort knowing that Paps is staying.
Wonder who we’ll try and offload?Comment

Highly unlikely. Wouldn’t mind one of McDonald or Hollands. Suspect they’ll both be gone before our pick 4 (5 after JUH).Comment

Nor would I expect Norf to trade their high pick in a one-for-one pick swap. With 11 delistings, they may be looking to trade in several picks. A possible scenario is their splitting their high pick for multiple later picks. Geelong hold three first-round picks and could be interested in swapping two late-first-round picks for Norf's high pick. With other trades, Norf could conceivably end up with four first-round picks because they already hold two. A more plausible scenario is their ending up with six to eight picks in the first four rounds, including some live pick trading. Some would be traded for players, but I expect they will go to the draft with about seven picks."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

I just had a look at the last three years of delistings. The only ones that I noticed were Lyons, Trent McKenzie, who's now playing regularly for Port, and Lachie Keefe, who misbehaved at Collingwood and is now at GWS. I thought that Hodge was delisted by Hawthorn, but he was down as retired and then traded? There's a few others playing the odd game, like Ellis-Yeoman.Comment

On another note, our ruck situation is looking dire. Naismith is a crock. He would have to be almost zero chance of playing enough games in a season to make an impact. Sinclair, as whole hearted as he is, has looked very smashed up this season and is not just getting beaten in the ruck but also around the ground. Amartey and Knoll clearly are not the answer. McLean just not tall or mobile enough. We need to find ourselves a ready made ruckman and draft (main or rookie) a youngster.Comment
