So why did we recruit Taylor and Gray into the club recently only to then get rid of Fox (ironically as soon as he starts holding down a spot) the very next year?

I also would have had Fox well ahead of Brand, Ronke and McLean who are still on the list though they do play different roles.

You left out Brand, but it hardly matters. Your point is well made.

The stark difference in opinion between the 2 posts is startling. I do agree with Scottee that we lost a lot of speed and some good skills, particularly kicking, with Fox, Foot and Thurlow adding to the loss of Stoddart and Rowles. But the fact remains that we still have a lot of speed and skills in the side despite these losses and will be getting some more in the draft.

I agree with SwanSand that we have plenty of depth in the backline even after these delistings. It's a reasonable expectation that Gould will be a good player. The few reports that leaked out about BOC were encouraging and I feel he will be one of those successful Irishmen to play AFL footy.

We might have been able to retain these 3 newly dropped players by keeping our list size at the maximum of 44, but it would have cut us out from several other opportunities, including the possibility of drafting Paddy McCartin.

When doing the best 22 for next year, there will be a lot of good players that won't find spots. None of our draftees this year will find it easy getting senior games.

The reduction in list sizes will leave a lot of good young players outside the AFL this year, and for years to come. Some will find their way back through lower competitions, but most will not. The squeeze on list sizes will trickle down through several more drafts before the pressure eases off.

Also, I wouldn't be doing a swap for GC's pick 5. We have enough good players coming in this draft. Next year should be an excellent draft with so many players being left over from this year's draft. We will be getting some gun players in this draft. Let's take a solid part in next year's draft pool by keeping our first 2 rounds of picks.

Taylor, Gray, Ronke, Amartey, Brand, Clarke, McLean and ET. That's 8 players. I have excluded Ling and Bell, but both could easily be added to this group.

Fox is ahead of all of these and it's a disgrace that they will be on our list in 2021 and Fox won't.
Amartey, Clarke, McLean, ET are all young with upside and from different positions. Not a fair judgement there.
Brand plays taller than both, and a better 1-1 defender.
Gray was delisted, and being rookied purely because he's contracted.
Taylor plays a different position and contracted.

They are tough calls but the right ones.

Always so negative! We could trade pick 80 for Dustin Martin and you’d still find a way to bag the club.

Serong did have a better year than Stephens, but Serong I believe has reached his ceiling. Stephens has a lot more upside and will be a better long term player

I for one am over the whole Irish experiment. 15yrs later we are still trying to find another Tadgh.
2x Irish in Tadgh and Stynes have really made it.

Id take Fox over COR in a heartbeat.
Fox is the Rampe protege, consistently competes on bigger bodies.

Only thing i will say for COR is that he is put in a box in our team, i suspect he would be more freely used elsewhere if of course i believed someone else would pick him up, which I dont

You have to Feel bad for Fox, he as others have said previously “Good” this year. Not serviceable, not ok, he was good ! I guess the club is looking to back in guys like Ling, Gould and BOC to come on next year. Brand to return also. Still I don’t think it could have hurt to hold onto him on a one year extension, the way his career is trending he could’ve been on track for a very good season in 2021!

Surely he gets a shot elsewhere. Good luck Robbie, the flying Fox [emoji1663]!

On traded the future 3rd round to Gold Coast for pick 37, can someone quickly work out how many points we gained?

Disappointed that fox was delisted, thought he played very well this year. That being said he would of held back Gould’s development this year......so I can understand decision. Same with Thurlow....he would of kept Ling out of the side. We obviously want to give our youngsters a chance and build a side for the next 10 years.

This whole strategy is going to implode if a bid comes for Campbell before ours. Not out of the question.

If Taylor can get fit he will be a good pickup. Gray was an obvious mistake but at the time we were celebrating his pickup after his last season with Port. I hope we now proceed with drafting McCartin as a delisted free agent. The forward line and Ruck are our glaring issues long term.

Fox medium defender and utility with exceptional athletic qualities, Ling, small defender, Gould, large defender with questionable tank and a skin fold problem. Not like for like
