Actually we won the clearances by 1, and were equal on centre clearances.

Rowbottom has all the makings of joining illustrious company such as Brandon Jack, Daniel Robinson, Jordan Foote and James Rose as Swans midfielders who looked like Haydn Bunton Sr in the NEAFL, but also-rans at AFL level.

I doubted over the summer whether Hayward would ever become a star. Now I am very seriously questioning whether he'll have much of a career at all. Reminding me of one G. Rohan...

One has to wonder how Kennedy & Parker have not left this club through sheer fatigue. Such immense input to our team for such little reward, and even less support.

A soulless and rather forgettable day of footy that has me already looking forward to redemption against one of our true foes, North Melbourne.

That’s fairly harsh on a 19 year old playing his 14th game. He’s certainly a work in progress but a bit unfair to write him off already. I’m confident he’ll become a key cog in our midfield in future years.

Due agree on Hayward though , he’s getting worse . Over rated, needs to lift big time.

Just about everyone that has been bagged is under 23.

Wilbur needs to lift, they should put him up the ground and make him earn a kick rather than just waiting for it to come forward.

Blakey and Mccartin as key forwards are 3 yrs away from taking a game on.

Mills on Tippa is silly, Harry C is the best lock down and id prefer to see Mills floating then held to a man.
Harry breaking lines isnt the best option either

Sam adds heaps, so was massively missed as far as clean clearances, not the snap kicks 40m high and 30m long. Hence the only chance a fwd had was for mark of the year.

Melican needs to be in as the lockdown to free up the rest of the defenders, even Brand is better intercepting.

Agree that Dawson was played too deep, would like to see Paps get a few minutes thru the middle too, especially when its quiet up forward.

My real concern is getting games into our 4 drafees from this year, plus a few other, hard to see whos in and out.
We have about 28 going into 22 atm

Im convinced Mckernan is getting contracts on games against us, always kills us.

Very disappointed by that effort - excluding Kennedy, Parker, Ollie, Sinclair, Rampe, Lloyd. Our forward setup did not work with Blakey, McCartin, Hayward, Gray and Henney having no impact or ability to take a mark.

Dawson and Mills were very humbly and both players cost us 4 goals in the first quarter, and against a fast side as Essendon, giving away a bit lead was always going to be hard to kick a winning score.

But credit must go to the centre bounce team, as they all played their hearts out to give us a chance to win the game.

I would like to see Melican back in defence to give us some height and strength.

We never win after a bye.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Apologies, I should have included the word "quality" or "effective" - too much haste

You think so? Some on here rate him as highly as Luke Hodge

One thing for sure is that other clubs target Mills. And it could be that once he's made accountable, his effectiveness drops off a lot.

Rowbottom may prove me wrong, but the common denominator in every match in his young career is an inability to find the ball. It's a major problem for a midfielder and a telling sign that the NEAFL is the level he will probably be most comfortable with. At best, he could be our third or fourth most important on-baller.

Bit disappointed by the game. Again, too many basic skill errors cost us goals. Mills and Dawson - i'm looking at you. Until we have the presence of Buddy or Sam Reid back in the forward line we need to find other pathways to goals. Our guys just didn't have enough composure when it mattered. Essendon fans are probably seething over Francis - he nearly lost them the game with his stupidity.

If his shot for goal was 50 cm to the right we'd be saying different things about him. I thought he did ok for a 2nd year player

If left down back he could develop into the role, my memory is fading but, pretty sure Hodge was a bit ho hum in his first 3 or so years, and only blossomed when he got exiled from the midfield. I recall Hodge being critiqued for not being up to

Francis got a 3 from one of the coaches, must have been Longmire as Francis undisciplined faux tough guy play directly gave us three goals!
