I'm sorry but you MUST be kidding. RB has to be one of our most exciting talents right now. Finally we have a potential contested beast, who is faster and a better kick version of LP at the same age. I have been a fan since he joined, and he relished the time when JPK was out.

I too think Paddlebum is an excellent youngster and has the makings of a gun mid. We have to hold onto players like him. I'm far more optimistic about James and co. than others and believe we'll be climbing the ladder this year.

That may be so but he won't be having a big impact this year. If you go to my original comment, the point i was making is that Mills will make an instant impact and give Parker and Joey the support they need.

Horse has a tendancy to use only 4 players for 90% of the centre square bounces. I don't see how he'll be able to do that in the coming season, I believe we have at least 7 players with extremely strong claims to a run at the middle. In any case it'd be good if he allows a greater rotation this year.

So I thought I'd try to list our followers (excluding ruckmen) in order of the amount of centre square bounces they will attend in the forthcoming season.

JPK, Mills, Rowbottom, Florent, Hewett, Parker, Heeney

Other possible visitors Clarke (if tagging) and Stephens (for the experience).

Parker will start at most Centre bounces ahead of Florent and Hewett.

Rowbottom will make a big impact this year. Mills is just another cog in the wheel. JPK will pull back a bit and spend more time forward. This will make our midfield very unpredictable. Rowie is a very good extractor and he will only get better.

I don't think Heeney will go anywhere near the mids. He will play forward. Campbell will play in there and maybe Gulden. Papley might get some mid time as well. This makes us a lot more unpredictable. I like the mix of youth and experience.

The other thing we have now is great outside depth. Players who are quick and can break the lines. Stephens, McInerney, Campbell, Blakey, Corruthers, Ronke. Benny started off as a winger/inside mid so is capable of both.

This is such an exciting time. If we don't make finals this year sack all the coaches lol

Our game has no such name. Sam Mitchell was a rover, a play maker, and Luke Hodge was a centreman, a play maker. These days just called inside mids. But Quarterback? No. They play some horrible game that you only play for 90 mins but takes 4 hours to complete that the Yanks seem to like.

I think the coaches seem to be very happy to throw the mids around this year. Having more players means Luke gets to play forward and get good rest. I think he could kick plenty of goals this year

It was only a couple of years ago when so many were lamenting about the weakness of our midfield. Even during the last trade period a lot were begging that we go after Charlie Constable. What would we do with Charlie Constable now?

And there was also plenty of resistance to moving Mills to the midfield. I knew it was inevitable. McCartin, Melican, Rampe, Gould, Fox, COR, Lloyd, Cunningham; even without Mills and Dawson in the backline, there's plenty of solid defenders to go around.

The midfield is so deep that it seems that our first round draft picks that haven't yet played, or played very little AFL, like Ling and Campbell, are slated for backline stints. Who knows where they will play? First we need to find an open slot anywhere on the ground.

I'm glad we've come around to see that all is well in Swansland. We have a great young list and we should be moving up the ladder this year.

I anticipate plenty of debate about who should be in the senior side. There will be a lot of surprised players finding they don't have a seat when the music stops.

Yes, I'm looking forward to the season. At the very least, we should play an attractive style of footy, and burn a few times with some adventurous ball movement and outside pace.

Before accidentally pushing 'post', I was also going to add, that I'm looking forward to watching plenty of the new VFL competition*. It will be interesting to see how we match up against the Victorian sides. Assuming we have an okay run with injuries, we should do well; as most of our side in the VFL, could easily be playing in our AFL side.

                          * perhaps we should start calling it something like the EAFL, just as a matter of principle?

Rowbottom who is what 21 years old yet to show any proof that he can be a dominant player is going to have a big impact, but you think Mills who is one of our leaders a big bodied player who has starred for us will just be a 'cog in the wheel' ?? Please explain your logic. Flip those two around - Mills will be the big impact player, Rowbottom will be a role player.

I like Rowbottom but we are getting ahead of ourselves if we believe he will be ahead of Joey, Parker or Mills who are proven stars for us (even if Mills was in a different role)

                              Sounds right.

BTW, I heard rumours that Eddie McGuire was off to Beirut to form a new Middle East AustralianFootball League. It would make sense to be called the MEAFL, but with Eddie calling the shots, my guess is that he will call it the FALAFL.

I think Beirut has suffered enough.

Warning: nothing to do with football.

Speaking of Beirut, the wonderful Azam Ali, recently put out a YouTube clip, called, Give Me The Flute And Sing, which is dedicated to the people of Beirut. In my opinion, she's one of the great singers, in peak form. Very much worth checking out.
