Not as many as in previous weeks. Besides McCartin, van Huisstede is also a regular top up. They also managed to get Academy players Anderson and Roseby down there. That leaves only 3 U19 players

Probably more influential was the fact Reid and Rowbottom not playing the last quarter.

Winning games in the 2s is not the only aim. Development of players to fit in to 1stXVIII a priority. Blakey, Amartey and Bell for example. Too many quick to point the finger at Laidler.

        Hi all,

I made it to this game mainly to watch Sam Reid in action in what i thought would be a straightforward loss, but unexpectedly got a great game!

A bit of an unravelling there in the last quarter. I'm not privy to Laidler's tactics so i can only guess and lament like the rest! It seemed like the Bulldogs had the better legs. I am not sure how it looked on the stream, but at the ground there seemed to still be a desire to run and create and put our foot on their necks once we got 6 goals up in the 4th. Skill execution and our lack of pace compared to the Doggies made it hard for that run to produce any fruitful plays and our turnovers just played right into their hands. Unfortunate.

Nervous viewing with Sam. I've watched many of these injury comeback games in the reserves and seen one too many players end up needing the doc's attention early on!! No such dramas with Sam, thank heavens. He was a bit proppy and didn't have a huge impact on the game as you'd expect in his first game in months - but he made it through OK. What a welcome face he will be in the senior team!!

I was rapt with the games of two young lads in particular - Logan McDonald and Dylan Stephens. McD was everywhere!! And I mean EVERYWHERE! He covers the ground so exceptionally well! One minute he was leading up down the wing to take a mark, and not even 15 seconds later he was deep forward nearly going for another!! What a talent!! Young Dylan also showed his supreme athleticism! He puts those after-burners on and no one can catch him!! Delivered some beautiful passes to our forwards' advantage too!!

Jimmy Rowbottom did as you'd expect, a consummate professional performance. Our midseason recruit McAndrew showed a good aptitude for the contest! At one point remonstrated with a Footscray player on the boundary line in support of a team mate! Nice to see some mongrel in him and to see he's got his teammates back!! Love to see that from your tall timber!! And special mentions to Sam Gray and Ryan Clarke, who aren't flashy and aren't in senior calculations but who never stop trying! Great reserves representatives for us!

I should also mention John Longmire was there and took a photo with my son. I had a little chat with him and told him I'd be making the drive over to Docklands later in the day. He gave me a wry smile and said, "looking forward to it." I noted the optimism he seemed to be holding just a few hours before a must-win game, and later in the evening I saw why he had such optimism!! Love the Horse!

Would've loved to have got the win but all in all a fun day at Whitten Oval!

Weird! I wonder if the combined strength will overwhelm the opposition or if it will be too hard for them to jell together at such short notice. Anyway, great that they're going to get a run. And good on the Lions for coming to the party and being cool with it.

Full side named here, I think the sportstg site couldn't handle such a large bench. Add Melican, O'Connor, and Taylor to the list

P McCartin, Roseby and van Huisstede playing for Essendon in the VFL. No sign of Amartey or Ling anywhere! Injured?

I assumed an Arm artery was a tattoo parlour that specialises.
