    Heeney please.

The scene: The ball is in our defensive 50. A scramble. Quick hands from Lloyd to Cunningham to Rampe who clears a kick from 30m out from goal near the boundary.

The Rat and Heeney are playing against each other on the wing and stationed upfield.

Rampe’s kick clears Heeney, who’s drifted back defensively, and is heading towards The Rat.

But it bounces 5m short of him. It bounces high into the air and hangs above his head.

Heeney is now tracking back to the contest. As he does, The Rat leaps up, with his hands high above his head to grab the ball, exposing his ribs.

As he does, in a perfectly legal tackle but one that only someone who grew up playing rugby league can execute, Heeney drives his left shoulder hard into The Rat’s ribs and pounds him back into the turf.

    Enjoy the ambulance ride, Rat.

        Two potential reasons.

There some reporting Adelaide gave us till last night, or they’d explore using it other ways this morning. Bluff or not, who knows.

Then as you said may also have plans for it, but so do the other clubs wanting it and all need time to execute.

FWIW, I don’t think the pick is a bad outcome but could have been better and more truly reflective of value if the player hadn’t treated us so poorly, and had instead given us more time and more flexibility - including engaging Port.

On Ladhams I get that we are looking at him as the long term first ruck. However next year (and maybe the year after too) at least he will not be in that role and hence we desperate for him

Port thinks they’ll still be able to get 31 or similar for him next year but I’m not so sure. As Dawson shows being out of contract apparently devalues your trade worth. I think paying a first rounder to get a second ruck / insurance for Hickey 12 months earlier is too steep a price to pay, particularly when Port are the ones who hinted to Ladhams he should be looking elsewhere

I really hope we don’t overpay for Ladhams.

Still wouldn’t mind us having a crack at Sicily.
Personally i'd rather we'd have a crack at Darcy Moore next year when he becomes a RFA. So will Sicily (i think?) but i rank Moore more highly particularly since Sicily will be coming off an knee. Far as i know, Sicilly isn't on the trade table this year from the list Hawks are prepared to offload.

I think he played us pretty well, which is the most disappointing part of it for me. Charlie & Harley seemed genuinely shocked and unprepared by the news, so makes me wonder how those conversations went throughout the year.

I did wonder if JD’s decision was a case of ‘the Wag nagging the dog’ but I’ve come to believe this move was his intention all along & it’s left a bad taste in my mouth.

I normally wish former players well when they move on (I was happy for Jetta to win a GF, for instance, tho’ I guess I wasn’t heartbroken after Mitchell’s terrible injury) but I’m not sure I can wish him success at this stage.

Jordan Lewis on Fox Footy last night reckons we should able to cover Jordan Dawson's loss with Blakey & Gulden.

Panel were bullish on Carlton's prospects next year, with question posed to Lewis who will finish higher next year between us & Carlton. Lewis reckons we will but still expected Carlton to play finals.

We hear the same garbage about the Bluescum after every trade period, after their exercised their latest salary sombrero magic power.

I'll believe it when I actually see it turn into results on the field. Long may they stay mediocre and irrelevant.

I like Dawson as a player, don’t know him as a person. What I do think about him is that he lacks a winning instinct . He could have a stayed at the Swans who have a proven winning culture, are building their list into a positive winning position and have one of the most highly credentialed coaches. He would have been paid well at Sydney as well.

He could have chosen Port, who have a fine recent record of getting into finals, have a young contending list, have a suitable game style and have a coach with has achieved solid results.

He chose a club that has been troubled since 2018. They don’t look like they will be winning contention for a while and their young players are not at Sydney or Port levels. Their coach is largely unproven and has limited time to get strong improvements.

Why chose Adelaide when he could have chosen teams with winning projections like the Swans or Port?

This tells me that he’s making decisions other than on the will to win. He wants to earn good money and be close to family but does he have that ultimate instinct to win a premiership.

Maybe a player who doesn’t have that Brett Kirk, Barry Hall, Adam Goodes or Lance Franklin will to win is better outside the Moore Park Building.

I don’t wish them well or success once they’re out the door. It’d be at the expense of the Swans. If they were pushed out the door against their will I offer them my indifference & won’t begrudge them success. Those that choose to leave for greener pastures, I hope the other side of the fence is a dust bowl for the rest of their careers (unless they pull a Capper, Paul Hawke or John Rantell and they come back home).
Dawson can have my Swans affection back when he retires.

                        1. I feel relieved that this Dawson thing is over. We wanted and deserved more but we weren’t going to get it and risked too much with the PSD.

                        2. A week ago I was not sure about Ladhams. After doing a bit of viewing and research, I’ve come around and am now all aboard. He may not be an absolute must for next year but he should be excellent for the next 7 years and allow us to stop worrying about a ruck. I understand people who think that we can wait a year but that comes with big risk. Get him now while you can. Next year another club may come in and start a bidding war.

In terms of a trade, I hope we can get him for 31. Brayden Preuss went for 31 last year and I think Ladhams is more valuable than Preuss was. It would be interesting if a swap of future firsts was involved. Imagine being able to death ride Melbourne and Port Adelaide next year.

One could argue that Adelaide have played in a grand final more recently than both the Swans and Port. And there is the fairytale sentiment of playing for the Club you supported as a child. For some (including me) that could easily be a clincher.

Ladhams and 16 for 31 and Future 1st

We pay the lot, 39 they pay some.

They want picks for Suns kids next year

                              I agree.

I'm very much in favour of getting a good ruck of Ladhams' age and experience. But:

                              * is Ladhams good enough to be our long-term first ruck?

                              * if he isn't going to be our first ruck long term then Ladhams, McLean and Amartey is one too many - why sign them all?

                              * why did we re-sign Sinclair? Presumably we weren't expecting to get Ladhams - but what a waste of a list spot!

Very disappointing trade period, especially if we pay a jot more than pick 31 for Ladhams. Worse than past years where we've done nothing and just sat tight.

We've weakened our list and the compensation in cap space and picks is inadequate. We also appear to be in danger of overpaying for Ladhams. ????????

                                Ladhams is 23 and proven.
It removes drafting a ruck with a 15% success rate they are going to be anything.

Hickey is a 4 team journeyman that we got very lucky with, we shouldnt let that pickup cloud our view as to how hard it is to land a serviceable ruck.

Ladhams removes years of worrying about a bonafide ruck.
