I can see Amartey developing into a no1 ruckman- he is not the tallest but has a great leap and is athletic. Good around the ground and can mark. He needs to improve his tank though, which should come over the next year or two. If he can learn from big Tom he could easily be his successor. That said, we still need to bring in at least one new ruckman as these guys are the most prone to injuries and we don’t want to repeat our past big mistake, when we traded Toby because we thought we were covered!

I hope we take a punt on McCartin. If his brother went down, I just don't know how we would cover him. Whilst he has had the odd poor match (Port), he's probably been our most important player alongside Hickey from an irreplaceable perspective.
It's probably also the only way we can get a ready made defender. We don't have overly attractive picks to trade, and no players of value we'd want to move. I wouldn't mind considering Jack Hombsch as a back up on the list if we don't take Paddy.
This years draft could see us pick up a smokey with pick 15ish or pick 30ish.
What's beautiful is - Collingwood have completely blown their draft. They're in a position where they could put their stars in for surgery, and finish last. But there's no benefit to them, as they've traded out their first round pick. If they hadn't, they could have acquired Horne and Daicos in the one drafted.
Wouldn't mind trading with Freo soon. The last time someone player played a game who had been linked to both of us was Troy Cook in 2007. We're due.
I’m sure we’ll be in the hunt for him.
Maybe Paddy and Melican can cover 2022 before we get Darcy.
I think a tall back three off 2023 of Tom McCartin, Darcy Moore and Blakey would be amazing.Comment

There’s having a problem and then there is incessant campaigning. There have been posts that contains factual comparisons of players for you to assess that indicate he is tracking as well if not better than your favourites but you choose to ignore them because they don’t back up your narrative. We all are well aware of your opinion by now apparently the team coaches and selectors don’t share it.
I often find value in many of your other posts on subjects other than James it’s just a shame that your continual sniping and denigration of him detracts from that. Seeing as he is contracted till the end of 2024 you may want to get used to his presence

Yeah shouldn't be a problem, reckon we should try to get Sam Walsh and Aaron Naughton as well?Comment

I wasn’t referring to my post but rather Ludwigs which I commented on as possibly highlighting a higher work rate and better discipline by James things that coaches rate very highly . Here is the link again for your reference

So even if i am wrong and he is better than i think as a mid , that will be his fate , he will spend his next handful of years behind Parker, Hewett , Mills, Chad , Florent Gulden and Campbell (Jpk will be retired) that is just an objective truth you cannot look at him and say he is ahead of any of them in any of those 4 categories . Brings me to the point i made that started this which is we have great midfield depth now with lots of different weapons and hes at the bottom of it , so i wouldnt blame if he went somewhere else like GCS for opportunities .
But i will add that i hope he doesnt , he seems like a loyal sort , extended when he didnt have to , showed commitment to the club . That makes him a BLOOD and we want every one of them we can get as we have moved on from the weasels like T. Mitchell who use us as a development facility for 4 or 5 years and then piss off !Comment

I hope that there's not a reason for us not to sign Paddy McCartin as a DFA, also hoping the double negative doesn't confuse, because he seems the perfect fit for what we need, i.e. a ready to play quality KPP, who can play at both ends of the ground.
A lot will depend on how the season finishes, fitness-wise, for a number of players. If Buddy, Reid and Melican can finish well, then we could make minimal changes again this year, with Paddy being the key recruit. We could give Sinclair another year and push on with our current ruck stocks until post 2022. Chol may not be an improvement on Amartey in that Ruck forward position, and we just go with Reid and Amartey for depth in that role.
It seems like there's a lot of competition for ruckmen this year, so maybe we can push off the decision one more year, since I would think everyone is more than happy to go with Hickey next year and 2023.
I think Brand might be delisted after that poor performance when he was subsequently dropped. How we rate the future prospects of BOC and Gould will also be key factors in how we approach the trade period.Comment

You can't really compare the two players of Warner and RB. They're really different.
I probably wouldn't have RB in my final 22, not because of Warner, but because he's more similar to Parker, Kennedy, Mills and Hewett. With Hewett now have a significant impact on ball, it nudges him out.
Warner is a more of a clearance specialist who can then roll forward. He's what we hope Bell would be, but he's jumped him in that queue.Comment

Good call I suspect that not every one has looked at the actual facts readily available in the link you posted.Comment

On that, it looks like Parker and JPK are doing a lot less dump kicks that travel 35m and are looking to feed runners. We look so much better when they're giving the hands off like this - I get so nervous seeing both of them kicking the ball when in space.Comment

I’m a massive fan of Sir James, but what I think happened this year was that he was given Hewett’s role as a defensive mid (with George tried in defence), but for a variety of reasons they’ve brought GH back and this has pushed RB out.
I know that’s stating the obvious.
I suspect a large part of that is for RB’s development.
Very interested to see whether George stays or goes.

I see them as two really different clearance specialists. RB goes in, wins the footy and dishes it out to an outside mid. Warner will get the footy and break from the contest. Both incredibly valuable, and needed to diversify a midfield. But I think we already have 2 players who over index in the same area as RB.
