Good post and analysis. The constant shots at RB come mainly from one source and their weird sidekick. Rowbottom has had a tremendous start to his career and projects to be a long-time Swan. Everything he has done this year has also been done under sufferance carrying a knee complaint. He will be the first in for tidy up surgery after we win the GF.

I know I shouldn’t comment but I am bemused at the constant shots at Rowbottom. I think we would all agree that Luke Parker is one of the first players selected every week and as a second round pick playing the same position and a similar player size wise I feel he is a good candidate to use as a comparison.
If you compare both players performance in the season they turned 20 the results statistically are very close and it would be a reasonable assumption that James has plenty of potential to improve over the next few years. If he tuns out to be even 75% of the player Luke is I for one won’t be disappointed
James Rowbottom and Luke Parker AFL Stats Comparison
Reason i worry about him is because i reckon he doesnt have one thing that makes him a stand out over any others. Mills and Parker are far superior as ball winners and as ive said numerous times RB is NOT a ball-winner , never has been even at junior level he posted pretty low disposal numbers . Chad , Florent etc are far superior as line breakers and explosive stoppage players. At some point we will want to get Errol gulden and Braeden campbell in the mids for their speed and kicking . I thought maybe RB could be the defensive pressure mid , who tackles and tags opposition mids and even VOUCHED for him over Hewett , until it became bleeding obvious Hewett was far superior in that role too !
I dont want to see a Blood not succeed and i worried all along that he would get to this point , where he is out of the side and out of his depth . I knew there would come a point where there wouldnt be a place for him in the mids and he'd get the boot , and that others like Bell would be better in a fwd role than RB , I said we should drop him so he can go to the vfl and learn how to be a mid or change his role as a small defender , like Harry. no one wanted to hear it and i was told i was a hater and that i'd be proven wrong . Well here we are everything i said about him has turned out to be true and believe me i am not having the last laugh as i wanted HIM to prove ME wrong .
If he is smart and wants to get games and have a long career he would go to the GCS with his sister who i hear is a jet . If hes loyal and believes in this club then love him for that but he will have a very tough road ahead of himComment

James Rowbottom’s sister Charlie was taken at pick one in the AFL W draft to the Gold Coast.
Do you think it would be an interesting play for the Gold Coast Suns to try and trade for James?
As our midfield continues to evolve with top end talent and the future prospect of throwing in Dawson, Gulden, Chad and Heeney into the centre bounces, should Rowbottom look for another club opportunity?
Don't let the truth get in the road of a good story, eh?Comment

Thank you for the comparison.
There used to be some consideration about the "weakest 6" being important; the preoccupation with Bell and Rowbottom as not worth a game is bothe tedious and probably irrelevant to the success of our much loved SwansComment

You literally suggested in your previous post to your sidekick that he should look to get traded from the Swans.
James averaged 22 disposals a game for the Oakleigh Chargers where he had to play at least 3rd fiddle to Rowell and Anderson. This is a quote from AFL Draft Central "James Rowbottom is one of the prime ball-winners in this year’s draft crop, taking on one of the most significant inside workloads amongst the best midfielders. His tackling and work rate in-close allows him to win a heap of his own ball.
Don't let the truth get in the road of a good story, eh?
22 disposals is that supposed to be encouraging , look at what some of these other juniors are posting . He is not prolific enough , only 4 games this year over 20 possessions and do you know how many times he has had over 25 ? Big fat donut . As an inside midfielder , cmon the writing is on the wall. Im supposedly the one who has some vendetta against him but im the only one who seems to care enough about his future to see that he will be off our list by the end of his contract running out in 3 years time if we do not address what is plainly obvious which is that he is a spare part where our future midfield is concerned , Better we address it now and find a role for him where he can fit in the team and be a part of our future success rather than leading him up the garden path by telling him he'll fill Jpk's shoes or Parker's shoes one dayComment

Twomey's July Phantom Form Guide: July update: Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide - best draft prospects ranked (afl.com.au).
Toby Conway is rated the best pure ruck and is cousins with the McCartins and also from the Geelong Falcons. Mac Andrews into the top 10. Gibcus now rated 6th. (Not the phantom draft but still suggests we'll need trade something if we want one of them.)
The name Goater caught my eye. First we'd had GOATs. Now we have Goater!! He won't need another nickname.
As for the far less interesting recent posts, can someone just put together a summary of the same old repeated crap, save it some where and put a link so we don't have to read it all over again.... we know certain people don't rate certain players, and will spin every which what why story to do so..... we don't need to hear it all again."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Those stats are the same for both of them.Comment

Hi TB,
You have made it clear you don't see much in Rowbottom as a midfielder, thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. But don't you think our great club and the coaches who have given us a finals berth this year deserve a bit more credit?? Maybe they see something in Rowbottom that you don't! They are privy to more than we supporters are!!
There is this wonderful thing called growth! He might just grow and blossom into the midfielder you don't expect him to be!! IIRC we took him with pick 25 in the 2018 draft - we wouldn't have chosen him if we thought there wasn't great potential there!
Give it time.. see how it unfolds.. as you say he is signed until 2024 .. three years to work on his game and learn and see where he can go. If the midfield gig isn't for him, he will find that out, and the coaches will work with him on it! Maybe it ends in him being delisted or traded out - maybe it doesn't!
It's great you have such high hopes for the rest of our young midfielders that you think Rowbottom will be the "spare parts" .. why don't you focus on those others you (and all of us) like so much and let Rowbottom be. What will be will be with him whether you rant about it or not, so why put yourself through it??Comment

Chad also doesnt need to be prolific because he can be very damaging with his explosive speed and creativity , hits teh scoreboard regularly too . Rowbottom is more limited so needs twice as many disposals as Chad to be as impactful

I ve got no issue with us taking him with pick 25 , we needed a mid at the time and they obviously rated him . Since then we've drafted Chad who is explosive , we've moved Mills who is the ultimate beast and the next JPK into the mids , we have drafted Gulden and Campbell who are very skilful , and Hewett has gone back to the mids where he has proved effective . So the need for someone like RB that we might've had 3 years ago isnt there now .Comment

RB. Chad is not prolific yet but averaged 27 as a junior compared to RB's 22 and has already shown he can find the ball easier as a 2nd yr mid than RB can as a 3rd year mid
