Errol Gulden probably deserves his own thread. Already a favourite player.

The best player from last year's draft is not who you'd think

A big rap there for Errol at Pick 32. He is certainly a natural football with great ability to read the play and use the ball. Its certainly early days for all of those young men picked up last November. We have a great batch out of that draft as do the Bombers.

Yes, and I'm expecting a big game from him against the Bulldogs, now that he seems to have been given the go ahead, to roam up the ground more. Against the Eagles, he even picked up a few possessions in the back pocket. Going back to his academy days, I thought that probably his main asset, was his ability to get to contest after contest.

And speaking of academy talent; I noticed that a couple of this year's crop, Anderson and Roseby, have been included in the VFL side this weekend. I'm keen to see how they go; especially Anderson, who possibly impressed me the most, in the bits and pieces that I saw of our academy games. He's a tough midfielder, with a rugby background, who can use the ball well. I suspect that he's already done enough for a VFL contract next year, but hopefully he can push for a late draft spot or a rookie selection.

Interesting the way the tides of popular opinion change. Up to round #1, the prevailing opinion was that Campbell was the goods. His laser like passing was far more esteemed on here than Errol's lower velocity offerings, even when it was pointed out how effective those kicks were.

Not dissing Braeden by the way.

I think we should be OK with midfielders, and up forward, but I think we need another key defender now - and that probably means trading or free agency rather than the draft.
Another ruckman will also be needed in the next couple of years, but the need isn't quite as urgent as it was this time last season.

They are both excellent players in the making, and a fair chance Braeden could well be the better of the two. Bit hard for him to make any sort of case when he ain't even on the field at the moment lol.

We are unlikely to have the cap space I would of thought to trade in a KPD at this point, unless we let someone of serious value go, which would seem unlikely. I'd expect we might seek another KP player of some form in this draft, but may hold our horses until the following draft/trade period, when Buddy's big contract will come off and we may well start to have some cap space to work with.

I thought Paddy McCartin was doing well in defence, before his indiscretion. So it'll be interesting to see how he goes in the remaining VFL games, now that he's served his time.

I’ll bet whatever else he is, Gulden has the highest footy IQ of any player in the draft. He annoyed the hell out of me as a player, but Gulden has Sam Mitchell level footy IQ.

Interested in who people think we might part with for the right deal. Apparently we shopped George around last trade period but there were no takers - maybe because he'd spent the year n the sidelines?
In hindsight we were also willing to lose AA.
But I can't really see anyone else in or around the first 22 that would command much on the market. Maybe Jake Lloyd, he's still 27 but will be a free agent in another year. I can see Braeden taking his role as backline playmaker. In my pinion, I'd be slightly less unhappy about his departure than the suggestion that Jordan Dawson or even Dylan Stephens may leave.

One wonders what he may have achieved if Adam had gotten as much time in the academy as Errol.

I think Campbell and Gulden are going to be long term stars for us.. but I think Sheather could be the best value pick out of that draft for us. I don't think he'll debut this year, maybe not even next year. He's on the Wicks trajectory, and will be a player.

FMD whatever happened to loyalty ! Lloyd has won 2 Bob Skilton medals , he is a BLOOD through and through you dont trade those types . I am told i only like flashy players well Lloyd isnt flashy but he is one of the hardest workers at the club on field and on the training track ! I know for a FACT he is our best performer in pre seasons and rated internally by the club , he prepares himself like a true professional and comes back after every summer break in peak condition so you know what you will get from him each year ! How many other swans can we say that about ? Parker?? Cunningham ? Thats about it these days .

Campbell and Stephens are class but they have not earne d their stripes and their careers are blips on the radar compared to Lloyd ! We did not become this great club by disrespecting our club champions .

I also hold out great hope for Paddy as a key defender. Strong, tall, obviously talented. The next 6 weeks in the VFL will tell a lot but I can se it happening.

I had to look FMD up and was a little surprised at the translation.
So let me just say thanks, but no thanks TB. . . . . Now to move on from your somewhat disturbing proposition, and the presumably sincere ejaculation that followed it.

The team has a couple of holes that have been identified by various RWOers.

On the assumption that the Swans won't be completely inactive in the trade period (or aren't completely banking on McCartin snr. or the Pelican) - We will possibly (once again) have to give-up-something in order to get-something.
So who do we think might have some trade currancy that we could?

                              PS

For those RWOers who can't come at such "disloyal" speculations, please feel free to give your imaginations full reign. How about Squizzy Taylor to Brisbane for Harris Andrews and Zac Bailey? Or an exchange of Balta and Ling with Richmond?
