Looks like the "will he play on in 2023" is now officially (in the media anyway) "keen to play on in 2023".

There's some speculation that the Swans are interested in a pick swap for the Bulldogs' pick 23, along with Geelong and Collingwood.

DRAFT WHISPERS: Pick swaps, what will Hawks, Blues, Crows do? (afl.com.au) The discussion about pick 23 starts about 1 minute in.

Extraordinary that it's even being considered given how few (myself included) thought he would actually make it to his final year.

Give up our two picks in the 30s for 23 and future pick?

We could jag a flag in 2022 but suspect 2023 would be more likely. Imagine Buddy going out with a Swan's flag!

This sounds about right if we wanted to go this way. I can see the point of this, even though we lose around 200 value points. The fact that we are interested in a swap that loses us a draft pick is the best indication for me that we are very serious about signing Paddy McCartin. With this strategy, we look likely to drop 1 list spot this year, down to 43, which is fine by me. Of course, opening another rookie spot is also a possibility. It's a difficult year to predict how things will go down.

“When he’s say mid-20s, I think he’s going to be an exceptional player.” KB talking about young Darcy in the draft

a similar lense that KB used for Rowbottom, Florent and or Stephens?

Paddy McCartin is a DFA so can be added free in any of the DFA signing windows.

If he's had the nudge, nudge, wink, wink from us, I suspect he'll be a late addition knowing we're committed, thereby allowing us as much flexibility as possible at the ND and RD.

Would really like pick 23 from the Dogs for our 2022 second. Next year we'll have two first rounders and the possibility of additionally up to three academy players. Should still be some potentially good players still available at that pick. Load up now!

I can just about imagine Buddy playing in 2023, but I'd suggest he'd better be ready to accept a very slender pay packet.
But sadly I can also remember the Lockett comeback. I'd hate to see a repeat of that, I'd also hate to lose a young key forward frustated by the lack of opportunities.

I thought HarryC fulfilled that role extremely well last season.

Bulldogs want the points for Darcy this year.

Could be something like that. The Dogs want points and our two picks in the 30s would be very useful for them.

A possible deal: 23 and a future 3rd for 31 and 39. Dogs would be expected to finish around the top 4 next year, so their 3rd round pick would be about pick 50. 23 and future 50 = 1088 points, 31 and 39 is 1052 points. Dogs would gain 237 points in this year's draft. Seems reasonably balanced to me.

My comment was on no way denigrating Harry's season. He was great. It's more having depth in the position. If HC was injured or lost form, there's no defender on our list who would be a natural match with the likes of Charlie, Kosi etc.

Yes, and I think that the undercurrent, of the recent story about Kinnear not being happy about a proposed reduction in testing, was that he thought that he didn't really have enough data on this year's draft. So, if that's the case, I can easily see us swapping a current pick for a future pick.

If Blayne O'Loughlin is not tied to the Crows, I'd be really pleased if we got him. He's listed as a small defender and a couple of his games for SA were highly rated. While he's highlights reel doesn't show much defending, he's rebounding skills looked very good, and I assume, that for a defender to be named as one of the best on ground, then they would've done at least some defending.

Would make sense, especially if we have some academy kids we think will attract second or third round bids
