I actually hadn't done much research on Matt Roberts before the draft and so I was actually more interested in his high ranking as a player coming into the season. From what I can tell, they are both very talented youngsters who have taken opposite paths:

Sheldrick - injured during 2020 so was not highly rated. Got a good crack at it especially late in 2021 and showed he was a beast.
Roberts - very highly rated throughout the U16s/U17s but got an injury in 2021 that made him slide.

I also find it interesting that Roberts slid so much after playing little football or football under duress yet Victorian kids were able to keep their high rating. Eg Campbell Chesser played 5 games in 2 years.
There was no negative connotation with Sheldrick that I could see, except to demonstrate the understandable ignorance of those who made these lists at the time they made them.

In hindsight, the Sheldrick pick was a good call. Anyone who has thoroughly outplayed the number 1 pick in a one-on-one matchup is a handy player.

Seems like the Swans are building a WA faction to go with NSW Academy. Shedrick, Corey, Chad, Logan. Seem like young players are all connected in some way or another.

        Franklin is WA as well.

Looks like this draft would probably spell the end of Taylor and Clarke.

What numbers will the new players get?

Corey Warner has to get number 2, surely?

Florent did rise to the top in the last game before the draft and KB discussed this also as very important when comparing Ollie vs others available at pick 11?

ie the ability over a long season to keep rising in competitiveness / development was an important characteristic in their matrix of assessing players in the draft

The Jamie Dury is out still on Ollie going to that next level but he has been important in our 22 so far

Sqizzy has just been taken by the swans in the rookie draft.

He is contracted for another year. I more meant I can't see him playing beyond this year or getting much game time this year.

Been a fan of his and thought he deserved more of a chance last year tbh

Yep - have to agree. Of course there are exceptions- but all things being equal - you hire the person with a bit of grit who has had to work hard.

Also Leigh Montagna had me choking on my dinner when he said the go home factor wasn’t much of a factor.

Can anyone hear or see any coverage of the rookie draft? The best I can find is LIVE TRACKER: Former Blue heads north, every pick as it happens (afl.com.au) and it's not very satisfactory. I can't tell if it is keeping up live and the 'listen' link is working for me.

I see we have re-drafted Lewis Taylor and I'm guessing we're not taking anyone else.

Leigh Montagna makes Tom Morris and Sam Edmund look like genuises. Just sprouts catch phrases and recycles Champion Data stats. A doofus.

Seems like just one Angus on our list is sufficient as we don't appear to have Cat B listed Angus Anderson :-(

With Cat B rookies, can't you just sign them? As in you don't need to take them in the rookie draft? Anyway, I suspect Paddy Mc is getting our last list spot and Angus Anderson may have to hang in there a bit longer. In any event, as a mid he would have his work cut out getting a game given our new draftees - although he does have a point of difference in his size.

afl live a "sh" system. It was all over the place ,last yrs was far better. Only rookied lewis t, nothing else except a mention of a preseason rookie draft, what that means is anybodies guess. Not sure now what happens to paddy mc or angus anderson.

Not sure if purely a coincidence but Swans have drafted a lot of left footers in recent years - Sheldrick Roberts Warner Campbell Gulden Stephens Blakey Ling Stoddart Dawson. Rankin not sure.
                                Hickey and Ladhams via trades.
