As others have mentioned, he did give Horne Francis a beating in a state game, the rest of his form has been consistently good and he's reported to have an excellent attitude. Also, his Twitter reaction to being drafted was, "If somebody said a year ago, that I would be taken in the first round, I would have told them to go and get stuffed!" Which I quite like.

However, having said that, since we're probably taking Anderson late, I wouldn't really want to take another midfielder, especially an inside one. Tall defender, Bazzo, would be my preference for our next pick. Then perhaps small defender and Mickey O nephew, Blayne O'Loughlin? His phantom draft rankings seem a bit strange to me. A few months ago, he was generally in the 25-40 range. Since then, he starred in a couple of matches for SA, but subsequently dropped down the rankings. Which seems odd? Maybe he's making noises about not wanting to move? But if that's the case, then I'm sure Uncle Mick could put in a good word for us. And I do think we need another quality small defender.
I'd like us to get Bazzo or Dean. The only caveat would be if we have an eye on a tall we like as a rookie. We need at least one young key defender developing over the next few years.

The more I look around, the more I see that I like.

Morning after - happy with Sheldrick and I think he'll be a player, but still salty we didn't take Johnson.

The guy so reminds me of Pendlebury with the added bonus of his size, which when he fills out will make him such a player. Certainly for WA Johnson>Sheldrick.

Sheldrick reminds me of a young Adam Schneider, but a bit more of a wrecking ball. I'm sure he'll be a good player for us.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

The appropriately named academy product, Liam Puncher, may be a chance for a rookie spot. He's played a couple of good games at CHB, for the academy team. Somebody else that might be a possibility is Jai Serong; who's projected in the late draft/rookie range. I'm not sure if he grew up a Swans supporter, like his brother Caleb, but he's a 192cm utility, who has pace and skill, and apparently has looked good in defence. Although, his profile says that until he puts on some weight, he should be viewed as a third tall, rather than a KPD.

Johnson would be a bit of a flight risk. Drafting someone only to have them go home to WA at the first opportunity would not be ideal.

It's not just Sydney that didn't select him when available. After Freo's second pick, St Kilda, Port Adelaide, Essendon, GWS, Brisbane (twice), Richmond and Melbourne also didn't select him. West Coast also passed on him to get Chesser. So there's something going on.

IMO Sheldrick will be a very good player for us. Our weakness of late has been winning the clearances and that's something he's good at. His owning of JHF in an interstate match with SA is another big tick.

All teams were on the phone prior to their pick being entered. I suspect thats the way the picks were communicated. If deals were being discussed it would be Beatson doing the negotiating not Dalrymple.

My view is that we had one player in mind and bang, we got him in the shortest time of any team’s deliberations.

And guess what? I trust full time recruiters to have greater insights than media try-hards and supporters who view thirty seconds of highlights and somehow become the fonts of wisdom.

Exactly this. We couldn't phone through Sheldrick quick enough. There was some talk that we were thrown by the selection of Tom Brown just before us but this can't be the case given the speed we locked in Sheldrick.

I do worry that Angus has been dominating the inside at a junior level because of his size. But give it a few years, guys like JHF will be bigger and start physically holding their own against Angus and then beat him with their superior skill. Hopefully while others are bulking up, Angus is building his tank and improving his disposal.

Obviously the recruiters and KB have a better insight than us pundits - it's their job. Doesn't stop us having an opinion though but as always (and often), very happy to be proven wrong.

I hope so. He's all class with his disposal. Would have preferred him than Sheldrick TBH as all the footage I've seen of him in game his disposal by foot looks average at best! Hope I'm proven wrong.

Great pic on the Swans website of Angus at the "guernsey presentation" with Chad and Logan. He will obviously do preseason training with them in Perth.

Feeling very comfortable with this pick. As others have said, every other team didn't rate Johnson, Draper, Sonsie, Goater, Butler etc in the top 20 either.

Can’t even find a proper highlights package on this bloke. Hopefully we have drafted Lachie Neale in the body of Jarred Moore…but gee whiz I’ve got a bad feeling. Hopefully Bazzo still available at 31 or 33 or whatever. At least Josh Willoughby was an under age Australian rep.
It's not up to us supporters is it? Are you claiming to be a better recruiter than KB? Did you even read the previous posts about this guy? He sounds like a gun....get positive mate.

Sheldrick seems really happy to be recruited by us. I like the few highlights of him during this interview.
