Outs: Dawson Hewett Ling Brand Gray Carruthers
Ins: Ladhams Sheldrick Roberts Warner Rankin ?PMac ??Angry A
Looking at the above, it would appear we should've alleviated our cap issues and hopefully freed up enough cash to re-sign those we want (Heeney, Mills etc). Yes, he are stacked with mids but I'm sure KB and the team are of the realistic opinion that not all will make it. If some get de-listed or traded, that's just the way it rolls in professional sport.
Overall, our list is looking good. Still very optimistic about 2022.Comment

Post Buddy and Sammy, we have McLean and Amartey for CHF- both good but not yet elite. With Logan at FF, and Ladhams in the pocket, we may need Paddy in the forward line for extra marking power. Looks like we will need Isaac in the forward line too rather than mid.
Obviously KB and team weren’t over impressed with the talls available so as others are saying will be leaving it for next year. A bit risky, but hopefully will work out. Gould and O’Connor to step up: this will be needed for sure!Comment

I have just had a quick look at the mid-year versions of the 2021 "power rankings" by the "draft experts" like Chris Doerre, Cal Twomey, and others on BF. Interestingly, Matthew Roberts was very highly rated - as high as 2 but consistently rated in the top 10.
Sheldrick is the opposite. Not heard of.
Not sure what to think of this except that I just found it interesting.Comment

But definite feeling of succession planning as you suggest - I agree."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Or before Sheldrick best on ground BOG in the last game vs SA and he plucked the winning goal to ice the game
I actually feel quite confident in Angus making an impact by year 2 and for me he may even get 10 or so games plus like Parks first season ......if injuries open opportunities"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Astute drafting not well understood by most. The players we drafted won't be putting much pressure on our salary cap in years to come. They won't be going home, because their parents will be ashamed to see them around the house, and will have rented out their bedrooms in any case. Mark Zuckerberg won't be making any money on them, because they'll have to close their Facebook accounts, something that will propel their lives in a more positive direction.
Seriously though, this year will make or break KB's reputation. 4 unassuming picks who only Chris Doerre rates. Let's see what becomes of them. We could have drafted Goater, Bazzo and Zac Taylor, then we would probably get an A+ rating, but passed them by for the guys we actually drafted.
Nothing is won or lost on draft night. Let the game play out.Comment

We didn't pick any taller players, but I reckon there's variety and flexibility in the non-KPP roles this bunch might play.
Sheldrick, in his interview, made it clear he loves to play onball but he also showed he is aware of the need to be able to play other positions, and is someone who might initially play a small forward role (or at least, spend some time in the VFL playing forward as well as onball).
Roberts sounds like a no-fuss all-rounder, maybe like a Hewett or Mills who might play forward or back while developing his midfield craft and earning a spot there.
Warner seems to be predominantly outside, and maybe has the least positional flexibility at this stage.
Rankin sounds more outside than inside - ie he doesn't sound like an onballer any time soon. At junior level he's played as a half-back flanker and a half-forward flanker. Presumably he could play in a "wing" position too, given those half-back/forward flanker and wing roles tend to merge into each other.Comment

Sheldrick - injured during 2020 so was not highly rated. Got a good crack at it especially late in 2021 and showed he was a beast.
Roberts - very highly rated throughout the U16s/U17s but got an injury in 2021 that made him slide.
I also find it interesting that Roberts slid so much after playing little football or football under duress yet Victorian kids were able to keep their high rating. Eg Campbell Chesser played 5 games in 2 years.Comment

Swans seem to have largely avoided drafting VIC kids this year. Not sure if that’s lack of exposed form or the fact they will barely have played for 2 years, or a bit of both?

Did Blayne O get drafted?Comment

No, which is a bit odd, since he was very good in a couple of state games. Though I suppose that small defenders aren't highly rated at draft time.Comment
