I think we need Hayward too. Reid was our only contested mark option going forward after Heeney left the ground. It has never been Buddy's forte and McDonald is still learning.
Or push Parker forward and bring in Paddlebum as we know Luke can take some really strong grabs in the F50. Not my preferred option as Parker has been really good in the middle this season.

He and Parker were both BOG from my perspective on the couch.
As I posted earlier in this thread I thought Reid had some very good moments at crucial times and it would be the best game I have seen him play. I have more confidence in him as a second ruck and spare defender than as a key forward. Definitely in the best three Swans on the night.

Agree, don't think I've seen him play a better game or have so many critical touches. Let's hope this is the standard going forward

If you kick the goals you should rather than points you don't end up in a fight to the final siren. If we'd kicked the goals we should have, we'd have won by 5 goals. Five day break after a very hot afternoon game took it's toll, got a nice 9 dayer now

Oh, I missed that. I thought he was very ordinary last night. I guess they are just looking at stats like disposals?

Thought Lloyd was among our best and was very good when we were under the pump early. B and F winner highly rated by the club but I guess a few on here know better.

Normally I have no concerns when the ball is in Lloyd's hands but last night he made me nervous when he was kicking. Although most of our back six lacked their normal composure last night.

Parker and Reed had their best performance this season so far and Blakey did not do well.

The Ist year players looked tired. I was calling for them to be rested and you can see that 5 day breaks are tough for 19 year olds.

I have to give “The Bloods” his due. Justin Mac was suberb, particularly in the last quarter. Kicked a great goal and passed a key pass off to Franklin.
yes, old school swans game just with more than 30 shots on goal ????

Stressful! Like every game in the mid-late 2000s. Guess we've been spoilt by the rampaging wins.

If they'd lost I'd be saying it was down to inaccuracy and poor skills at key moments. Since they won I can say they did what was required when it mattered to get the win - and I think that's true. Florent's wonderful tap near the boundary to keep the ball at the right end in the last minute or so, for example.

Feels like there could be changes (aside from Heeney) next week, even with the long break. One or two youngsters might need a break and I imagine Rowbottom may be back if fit.

Daring to dream! Some very winnable games coming up, could go 6-0.

It will be interesting to see how we respond tactically to Essendon's approach going forward. All of our future opposition teams were watching and will try to mimic it against us in future games. Essentially, the tactic seems to be to crowd the centre corridor so we can't use that option, high pressure on our ball carrier so the short pass options are cut out or difficult and to force long kicks down the boundary or sideways kicks. It took all of our fast movement away last night. Luckily, we won the clearances/stoppages handsomely and that allowed us to have plenty of scoring opportunities which we mostly failed to take.

I still don't get these rankings. They show Warner had a poor game? Also if they bring in things like pressure acts and tackles etc, how does Wicks end up lower down when he led the swans for tackles and pressure acts. I thought Justin Mc was awesome but I don't get how he could be so high given he is an outside winger?

I think the swans will need to adjust their plans for ground sizes. It just seems that on the scg that the zones work because players are closer, whereas the mcg allows the corridor running to work.

Swans attempted to go through the corridor early, however Essendon set up well and succeeded in smothering the ball well. After that point the Swans lost some daring and confidence to go through the corridor. There were 5 or more times when a defender or half back didn’t take the big switch of play option, instead electing to kick down the line.

I hope the Swans don’t abandon Don Pyke football of quick ball movement through the corridor with overlap run and daring kicking. When that football comes of it’s great for the crowds.

That goal where Warner picked up the half volley, hand passed to Bell, who hand passed to Guldon who then kicked long over the back to Franklin was the perfect execution of Don Pyke football. I just love watching it. Keep going with it Swans.

The reason we lost dare and confidence was because the tactics weren't working, because Essendon were able to (on the night) effectively counter them through a huge level of sustained pressure.

You don't hit your head constantly against a locked door because you don't have the key, why would we do the same on the football field? We found a way to win after being 4 goals down - history doesn't care about 'how' you got the win, just that you got hte win.

We will play quick ball movement footy at plenty of times this season to keep you happy, but it didn't work as well last night and we had to find another way. Which we did - which for a very young side is an excellent sign.
