Naismith was pretty bloody good in 2016. Shame that was his only real year.

While an argument to that effect could be mounted, I would say that it was actually the A(V)FL's childish, petulant and prejudicial reaction to our recruiting of Buddy and their subsequent consequential actions that set us back ten years. Mike Fitzpatrick is an enemy of the Swans and has a lot to answer for.

Swans have played finals in 5 of his 7 years with two minor premierships and two grand final appearances since Buddy joined us in 2014.

Buddy has two Coleman medals, four all Australian, five time Swans leading goal kicker in that time.

Membership jumped from 36.358 in 2013 increasing annually to nearly 62,000 in 2019 before dropping to nearly 47,000 last year (Covid vs the “negative Buddy effect”, it’s open for debate).

Imagine the last 7 and a bit years if Bud hadn’t set us back by joining us!

I guess we're a chance now with the shock return of Hickey.

I was almost going to mention, that Hickey was in red, in the gallery of training photos. But Franklin and Naismith were also in red; so it didn't seem to be all that reliable.

Although that team might put the chasing skills of our small forwards under pressure, as it seems that there'll often be two of Sinclair, McLean or Hickey, in the forward line. Although having both Sinclair and Hickey in the same side, might spur each other on. A bit of a ruck off.

                Interesting changes:

Why is COR into the backline and not Ling? Can someone who watches the reserves provide context to why COR was included instead of Ling.

Why is Guldon still in the team? He’s getting tired and needs a rest.

How can a player (Hickey) who had an 8 week injury be back after two weeks? Is it a risk to play him.

It appears that “The Bloods” has gotten himself a seat at the selection table. Stephens in for Blakey is a change he’s been calling for all year. Blakey’s versatility would be useful for the medical sub role.

                  FOLL: C.Sinclair, L.Parker, C.Mills

                  I/C: T.Hickey, C.Warner, D.Stephens, E.Gulden

                  EMG: R.Clarke, N.Blakey, K.Brand, J.Bell

                  OUT: K.Brand, N.Blakey, B.Campbell (all omitted), G.Hewett, S.Reid (both injured)

Blakey the Sub? Glad Stephens gets a full game. Hickey is a shock, hope he is 100% and not taking any calculated risks.

Is he already out most important player, Lovebite?

Very happy he’s back if he is actually fit and can change direction etc.

Feel a lot more optimistic than I did 32 minutes ago

From the Fox Sports site: Sydney regains ruckman Tom Hickey but youngster Braeden Campbell has been dropped and Nick Blakey is omitted amid five changes. Uncapped cult favourite Will Gould remains on the outer.

Fantastic changes. Mccartin Hickey great inclusions. Stephens is a superb talent. Oriordan probably loses his spot once Hewett or Fox come back. Good to see him earn selection though
