Seems like a brilliant bloke and he’s a joy to watch on the football field. I was saying how amazing his goal was at home.

On the opposition. Why does McKay persist with these around the body kicks when kicking for goal. That tactic probably cost Carlton the game.

Why don’t forwards run in and kick for goal like Carey, Dunstal or Lockett. Run in straight, use drop punt and kick through the ball. It seemed to work well for those guys.

I’ve always found the more annoying to be the whistle that is blown for a free kick when someone is already playing on. It is unnecessary and causes problems (as most players stop when they hear the sound, except the person with the ball).

After watching Making Their Mark on Amazon, my admiration of Eddie Betts could not be greater.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I was sitting in the Brewongle Stand, and also applauded this effort from Eddie Betts. He’s a joy to watch, and his sheer love of playing footy is obvious to all. Part of the joy, really.

Yup David Rodan for Port at SCG May 2008...couldn’t stop myself. Mind you we were 49 points up at the time.

Amen - showing my age but set shot goal kicking has gone backwards. Imagine McKay if he could kick straight - wow.

A lot of players seem more confident in shooting for goal with those foot across the ball kicks. We certainly see much more accuracy at shooting for goals from near the boundary with those style of kicks. Personally, I prefer players to run straight at it and kick a drop point when shooting from straight in front or a small angle. Having said that, its all about confidence in goal kicking so players should opt for their most comfortable option.

He had no right to kick that goal all in one fluid motion, if you do the trigonometry it’s just not going fly, however he’s done it so many times you just have to tip yr Swans cap to him he’s that astonishing.

Always loved Eddie Betts.....his feats over his career have constantly astonished me and he is just a lovely human.....and in his 'Indigenous Round' interview he said Adam Goodes was his footy hero. That just tops it off. I would be happy with the Goal of the Year medal being called the Eddie Betts Medal.

I love Eddie Betts. Always have. Wished he played for us, but as Eddie Everywhere once said, you can't have everybody. Pity.
That goal of the year from the boundary (he'll probably have three nominations, as usual), was a one handed-grab, which he bought down and drop-kicked - still one handed.
He's a credit to the game.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

That wasn't McGuire, it was Gil. Mongrel.

Must admit I have a soft spot for Eddie Betts and agree the goal of the year award could be named after him.

I was clapping as loud as blues supporter on the weekend after the one hander. Special to see it live, and better on replay!

Don't you reckon more goals are scored from tight angles these days? But i also reckon more goals are missed from easier angles.

BTW, interesting to see Greg Stafford on this list: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/accuracy.html
