I'm going to make a bold prediction and say Logan McDonald and Riley Thilthorpe will both be better key forwards than JUH. Clearly had not earnt his place in the team and he knew it. Also underdone from a fitness point of view. Commentators just talked him up completely. Made a good case for not gifting players games.Comment

This team has real heart. They're working for each other and buying into the game plan. Even though we got smashed at the centre we were still able to force turnovers and capitalise. We were good enough everywhere else on the ground to absorb that hit....against the best attack in the league.Comment

The key word here is TEAM. While at times we get a bit Buddy centric as he demands a lot of ball, we have an even spread of players all around the ground and multiple players who can kick goals. Also importantly we have players who are improving on a weekly basis. Depth doesn't seem a problem either. The fact we are mentioning Bell who is playing really well as a possible out when Chad gets back is very significant.
* There’s not an obvious/automatic spot for Stephens, Campbell, McLean and McDonald
* Rowbottom, Reid and Warner will be fighting for their spot and need to be back to full fitness to claim it.
It’s not that some of these players won’t be in the 22 come finals or aren’t necessarily best 22 when at their best. But it’s good to look at the list and see the pressure to perform.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Injuries are inevitable and we may rotate some of the young guys as we manage them but isn’t it a nice problem to have. Right now you’d say:

I generally try to disregard the umpiring, but found myself yelling at the telly a fair bit thru that third quarter in particular. I don't believe there is bias against us, corruption / cheating etc, though at times it seems incompetence is the main concern. I'm probably more aligned with the school of thought that questions why is it that in 2021 umpires are still not fully professional, when you consider some of the superfluous constructs that have crept into the game in the past decade such as AFL X and some of the soft cap indulgences.
Observers new to the game are often gobsmacked by the size of the playing arena. Maybe three officials is insufficient to adequately patrol a field of this size for a game often played at a breakneck speed. Umpires are often unsighted when calling or not calling an infringement. Might this not explain the perception that the Bulldogs get away with a lot of incorrect disposals? Perhaps its all too much for too few.
Basketball, as a comparison, played on a court one tenth (?) the size of an AFL ground is umpired by three referees. I acknowledge though that introducing more officials would piss people off even more, and the requirement for professionalism would be more difficult to achieve, and slowing the game down with coach challenges (ala professional US Sports) would destroy game momentum. Could boundary umpires also be tasked with calling free kicks that field umpires aren't in a position to judge? (Though from yesterday's vision they seem to be struggling with their own domains).
It's an issue crying out for a solution. It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

would be a multi millionaire by now. Of course there is no umpiring bias involved. Absolute Bull**** !!Comment

I enjoyed the feeling of confidence in the back half of the field—I mean my confidence as I watched. I just always had the sense that we had things covered. Fox was outstanding, sure handed and fast. Cunningham is having his best-ever season. Blakey and McIninerny real handfuls.
I also think that Hewitt was great yesterday. A real challenge for Rowbottom, I think, as that seems to be the most like-for-like match-up at the moment.
Parker was so strong, and Kennedy, notwithstanding some comments above, was mighty. But I don't think that we can play JPK, Parker, Hewitt, and Rowbottom in the same 22. Mills is # 1 midfielder picked.
I would like to see Warner back in for the explosiveness, but can't see who makes way. Lots of good problems to have in terms of MC, but harder challenges for list management: how do we hold onto them all?
Gulden's deft little 45 kicks into the corridor were outstanding, and how was his defensive spoiling

is it just me or has the reintroduction of Errol and his footy smarts, along with Dawson becoming an attacking weapon from the wing, changed the course of our season?Comment

Agree with that. Errol shows remarkable skills and precision for a first year player. Dawson has always exhibited these skills, but now seems to be in the right position for the team. I reckon we can improve further once Papley and Heeney find another gear. They're currently both still below their best. It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. When we are on song, as we have been the past two weeks, there is no obvious route to goal, but a range of threats, which is making it hard to defend. Papley and Heeney are quite capable of taking marks, but are also thriving with the ground balls. With Amartey crashing packs and Hayward, spring-heeled, finding space where, really there shouldn't be any, and Bell and Wicks getting to all the right places, sharking, it is a potent machine. And that's completely ignoring Buddy.Comment

Is that because teams have to send their best defenders to these two (and Buddy)? Heeney often seemed to have 2 defenders with him yesterday."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment
