Well then would it be fair to say that without the confidence shown in you by BS that your recent diversion of a post to the Serengeti desert may not have been possible ? And now with his support is the sky now the limit or are boundaries of any description now redundant for you ? Great to hear that your potential existential crisis has been averted.

      sky?

That damn macular degeneration is playing havoc with my commentary. I need another confidence booster from BS to lift me up in these troubling times.

You need to do better MCS. I’m known on this forum for inviting the views of others to comment whether it’s TheBloods, Barracuda, Ludwig or Neon.

Ludwig is showing great depth of understanding on the importance of the commentary mix. You need a funny guy. In cricket you have Kerry O-Keefe with that laugh. BT does that for the AFL

The greatest I’ve heard was John Madden who had everything. He could be the funny guy, he had the iconic voice, his comments were highly intelligent and had the respect of being a Super Bowl winning coach.
Was Ludwig being serious though Bangalore in his admiration not too sure he was being that..BT ruins any game he commentates amazingly for the very same reasons you quote in your admiration for him
Apart from that he’s so biased in his calls ..he feigns excitement for teams that aren’t ones he barracks for or has played for ..
That’s hardly rule 1 and the most important rule in commentary 101..
I personally turn the volume down now for his matches and try to find radio commentary ..that particular set of commentators .Darcy , the redhead from Geelong who escapes my name is it Scarlett and BT together don’t make one hundredth of a commentator such as Speedy , Hutch , Jonathan Brown , Garry Lyons ..don’t even compare with them ..different class and planet ..
          You’re simply confused Bangalore …

They are a fantastic family. There was an insinuation posted on here a while ago that Rowy's family connections were responsible for him receiving some recognition.. this couldn't be further from the truth as his family have gone out of their way to NOT involve themselves in his career..

they were the ones who encouraged him to move interstate if it could help his career.. they wanted him to forge a career separate from his footballing background which is pretty rich with Victorian footy royalty (his dad Adam was a great VFA footballer back in the day - played with my hubby!!, his uncle is BT as is well known, and his family are also very very close with the Maguires)

They have taken the same approach with his sister, Charlie, who was in the headlines recently for nominating Gold Coast Suns in the AFLW draft rather than her home state of Victoria so as to make her own path!!

They were thrilled that James was able to go to a different state and learn off great former Victorians in Joey and Parks about what life away from home is like .. he is learning how to start a life in Sydney off them and his parents could not speak in greater terms about those two leaders in particular.. he is in this club for the long haul and it starts at the top with his parents..

A little side note that im not sure has been reported anywhere .. because of his eagerness to move interstate he was in the sights of West Coast Eagles and they had him lined up with their 2nd round pick in that draft which was pick 28! We nabbed him first, with our pick 25.. which we got from .. the West Coast Eagles!! They wanted an inside mid and ended up taking Xavier O'Neill instead! I like to think KB is such a cunning bastard that he took the Eagles' draft pick and then used it to steal the player they wanted from under their nose, but I doubt KB was privy to the Eagles draft plans.. more likely it was just a cruel twist of fate for them.. how sad ..
I hope that admirable desire to forge their own separate paths away from their illustrious past family exploits doesn’t preclude James and Charlie uniting at the Swans one day as soon as her contract ends with Gold Coast .

I can tell you for a fact that in my case it takes a hell of a lot of self control to not provide you with the sort of feedback that some of your statements deserve . Feedback that would warrant completely different language and delivery in any other forum whether that be in person or online. I think many of us do our very best given the parameters that apply on this site and couldn’t be any better.

You might feel you are known for taking on the role of inviting opinion from certain posters that you have declared to be more worthy of than others however I suspect that in your short time on the site that is not what you have become known for.
And have you never noticed that most people , and especially some of your chosen seers, will choose to offer an opinion on this site without needing your prompting.
Please cease your sycophantic posts and thinking that your publicised thoughts and opinions are beyond reproach.
I think we just need the teams to come out tonight to divert this conversation.

I think if you stopped hijacking posts with ridiculous proclamations we wouldn’t require any diversion.

This has been off topic long enough. Let’s get back to the business of team selections.

You're probably thinking of Cameron Ling. Who's actually pretty good when he's part of an ABC Radio commentary team, but tends to come up with inane drivel when with BT. I suspect that the senior commentator generally sets the standard. The brilliant Dennis Cometti seemed to lift those around him, while Taylor tends to have them irrelevantly droning on, while the unfolding game is hardly acknowledged.

My estimation of Cometti plummeted after his call of Adam's war dance celebration against Carlton.

I have a slightly different take on BT. When he's calling big moments in big games, he does it fantastically - as good as anyone else in the game right now. You can almost hear him get serious about his job. He actually calls the play and the moment, rather than a James Brayshaw or Luke Darcy or Eddie "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa".

Where BT becomes ordinary is the hum drum of an average game. It's like he gets bored and drifts into drivel.

I can see why the, "Should he really be doing that?" was irksome. But he almost immediately started walking it back, when others in the commentary team, were supportive of Adam doing something indigenous in Indigenous Round. However, I'll always be a fan of Cometti's brilliant use of the language and his hilarious observations.

I tend to agree with you regarding his actual commentary and one liners. Bruce Macaveney ( who in my opinion is one of the great commentators) had this to say about Denis when he was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame
“There are a lot of very good commentators, many that have come before Dennis and there’ll be a lot that come after him, but I really believe he’s the benchmark.
That’s probably as good a recommendation as you can find for a sports commentator in this country.
To be fair not too many people have a perfect record when it comes to getting their initial call right on something they see during a game in real time.
I know the thread has now been hijacked but this is worth a look for an insight into just how quick witted he was

Here's a Denis call for ya. Just perfect - including the pause after 'Sydney are Premiers'
