The brilliant Dennis Cometti seemed to lift those around him, while Taylor tends to have them irrelevantly droning on, while the unfolding game is hardly acknowledged.
    Good points

That’s probably as good a recommendation as you can find for a sports commentator in this country.
To be fair not too many people have a perfect record when it comes to getting their initial call right on something they see during a game in real time.
I know the thread has now been hijacked but this is worth a look for an insight into just how quick witted he was
Celebrate Dennis Cometti’s AFL Hall of Fame induction with his 10 best one-liners
Excellent list, but of course, any list is incomplete. There's a couple of exclusions that spring to mind.

When Rhyce Shaw was playing for the Swans, he sprinted out of defence, and attempted to launch a kick. Unfortunately, it slewed off the side of his boot and went out of bounds on the full. A few minutes later, Shaw's next rebound attempt, led to him perfectly dropping it into the path of a leading player. This was described as, "the Shaw shank redemption".

        Whoops, accidentally pressed post.

The other one that I was going to mention, related back to Cometti starting out as a DJ in the 60s. Andrew McLeod was getting some unwarranted attention, after he had been tackled. This caused a couple of his team mates to come in and remonstrate. Which was described as, "I think they're saying: Hey! You! Get off of McLeod!"

Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner
I can only dream of having an ability to deliver such a quick witted response

Where BT becomes ordinary is the hum drum of an average game. It's like he gets bored and drifts into drivel.
I agree a little with that but those big moments tend to be bigger moments in his mind when he’s calling a Richmond or Essendon or the Bulldogs as opposed to the more subdued when it’s the Swans for example ..he tends to really focus on umpiring mistakes when it’s those fore mentioned clubs and then hardly dwells on bad calls when it’s the Swans for example ..to keep he’s unbalanced in a little bias

Another Swans related one, was when Barry Hall came off, due to a rapidly expanding lump above his eye.
"Ooohh, looks like his forehead is becoming an eight head."

It looks like Mills and Lloyd are both fit to return. Mills is a test. Warner is tracking well. Bud might return. I would not get rid of McLean. He provided a pack mark option and was quite good. He brought the ball to ground and actually rucked well. Reid seems incapable of kicking a goal from within 40 metres of goal. Some of his shots have been downright amateurish. He is also not performing. I usually give him 3 weeks to get his form back but it just hasn't happened. I wonder if it might be time to move Sammy on.

Out: Kennedy, Blakey, Reid, maybe Wicks to rest.

In: Mills (if ready), Lloyd, Bud & Warner

They are very close, it would not surprise me! It is not a given though.. she has several months to spend with and bond with the Gold Coast Suns girls.. there is nothing for her in Sydney except her brother and his partner! Tell me.. would you move to a different state for no reason other than your sibling being there? I know i wouldn't!!

Given St Kilda interest in McLean, do we want him to play and have a great game, and thus we can ask for more in return at the trade table, or do we end up having to offer more to him ourselves to keep him?

Would be happy to see Hickey get a rest and Sinclair get a run. There may be a few others who would be worthy of a decent hit-out before the finals start by way of contingency planning, but that seems the obvious one.

There was an interview with Will Hayward on one of the Melbourne footy shows where he suggested Logan was currently injured.

BT doesn’t annoy me at all either , he’s always takes a few risks at a charismatic entertaining call .

You need to do better MCS. I’m known on this forum for inviting the views of others to comment whether it’s TheBloods, Barracuda, Ludwig or Neon.

Ludwig is showing great depth of understanding on the importance of the commentary mix. You need a funny guy. In cricket you have Kerry O-Keefe with that laugh. BT does that for the AFL

The greatest I’ve heard was John Madden who had everything. He could be the funny guy, he had the iconic voice, his comments were highly intelligent and had the respect of being a Super Bowl winning coach.
BT can be pretty funny at times....but as a footy caller, he is pretty average IMO. If he was funny AND a good caller of the game, I would think differently.
