He didn't deviate from his line and there was no force.
Problem is that he didn't deviate. You tend to show respect by stepping around an ump, not straight into them. Not difficult to understand difference between players and umpires.

not just Buddy staying fit. Kennedy and Mills out cost us today + Parker Hewett and Dawson still not signed

That last free kick to Greene was staged. McCartin got him on the shoulder. No high contact. We lost one last chance that we should have had.

Florent continues to frustrate. I like him a lot as a player, and really think he will blossom when we get a bit more sorting out done in the midfield (I feel he is caught a bit in 'no mans land' in terms of his role at the moment as our new age midfield develops) - but there is definitely a risk that he could find it increasingly difficult to maintain his spot if he can't improve his decision making (and execution at times).
The non-free that irked me the most and that was possibly the most costly, was Haynes with two hands in the back of Heeney, in a marking contest right near the end of the third. Perhaps Stevic thought that was a poor judge of the flight of the ball, or something?

Agree. Too obvious. Also Hodgy looks like he's been in a very good paddock.

A loss like that still smarts for a very long time .

              Anyway,
I hope Toby gets off , I don’t a harbour a fierce antipathy towards the Giants (I like Sydney having two teams) and wish them the best to go all the way .

depends who we hang onto post season but I think the opportunity missed here is that we didn’t get a finals win into the younger brigade.

The thing that irks me is when people say bring on 2022.... fact is we had a chace in 2021 to go deep and who knows maybe pinch one.... no guarentees on 2022, chances are rare, need to take them...

Bell's was the equivalent of a 3 ft gimme and he didn't get close. You can't carry players in a team that can't do the basics of why they are selected. I like the lad a lot and hope he can kick on, but I just don't see it sadly. Put Campbell in the same situation and I bet he wouldn't have missed.
True. I still have the headache from the apoplexy suffered as I screamed BELL! as that kick hit the post (the kids are still recovering too). That was them moment… so much hard work to get back into it before then. Sadly reckon that’s his last game.

Just a few thoughts on what I saw. Looking back it was the 2nd quarter where we lost the game. We played poorly and then had to spend the rest of the day catching up. We almost made it! The last 1/4 was madness in the stand where I was as I had some feral Swans supporters behind me. Hickey took some enormous marks and the players played their hearts out. It just wasn't meant to be. Buddy's miss was critical and the the snap shots all went through the wrong posts.

I couldn't work out why we were kicking long down the line all the time especially 2nd and 3rd quarters. We were being out-marked so often and their crumbers were getting to the ball first. It seemed like we only played 'the Swans' way' in the last quarter. (I haven't heard JL's presser comments yet!)

One good thing about Rowbottom that Florent is missing, is that Rowbottom has such good field vision. He picks out open players so well and gets his disposal off so quickly. That alone will make him a very good player.

Re blocking ; every team does it. How many times do you see a high ball go into a pack of six players, and someone takes a completely
uncontested mark? Six, seven, eight times a game. I'll fall over if they don't all practice blocking at training. They are all pretty good at
                              it these days.

I’m not so sure it will pass that quickly. The team will be devastated and I feel for them after what they’ve been through. They deserved a better outcome. I’m just sitting at home drinking beers and screaming at the telly, so I’ll be fine - but the players are gonna suffer a massive let down.
