Are you seriously contending that if there was no contact then Greene's actions were OK?
Why should the umpire have to take evasive action in those circumstances? The umpire was standing still and Greene was the one walking towards him.
Your argument is the equivalent of defending the tactic, much loved by siblings, of windmilling the arms and walking towards the other saying "get out of the way, it's your fault if you get hit".

All I'm contending is that there was no contact, if very very light brush with the hand. What was stevic doing standing still in the middle of players in the first place.?
A fine is appropriate, but really for what? Arguing with an umpire is at worst a free kick.

Remember when roos sent Barry hall to the ump's at half time to complain about the free kick count. That was pretty demonstrative and aggressive.

Guys, emotions are still too high to allow viewing of the replay, but from memory here’s my take on the missed shots:

Wilbur: difficult but with his experience should have goaled.
Wicks: gettable, should have steadied. History of missing these.
Tom: not easy but gettable.
Bell: 1st shot: gettable, not too difficult and a very poor kick.
2nd shot: unbelievable miss and unforgivable
Buddy: gettable for him- very poor with a couple of minutes to go- should have kicked it with his experience.

Got that off my chest, so I thought I would assess our team and others who played over a pretty good season:

Harry: good
Melican: average at best
Ramps: good
JMac: good
McCartin: good
Lloyd: average plus
Dawson: very good- excellent
Joey: good
Ollie: average
Paps: very good
Buddy: very good- excellent
Wilbur: good
Errol: very good
Sammy: good
Mc Lean: average plus, limited games.
Fox: average
Hickey: excellent
Mills: excellent
Parks: excellent
George: very good
Heeney: very good- excellent
Blakey: very good once moved to HB
Campbell: limited games, average
Amartey: as above
Logan: as above
Stephens: as above, below average.
COR: as above, average
Bell: poor
Wicks: below average
Chad: missed a lot of games, but good.



Hope I haven’t missed anyone- let me know if I have.
My conclusion is that to be contenders for a flag, we need to have all our players “good” or above. We can have 1 or 2 as average plus at most, and certainly no one below.

Clearly, yesterday’s team selection was wrong but the list is looking ok. Players assessed as “ average” need to improve next year and with smart recruiting 2022 will see us in the frame.

Hi Roadrunner, I agreed with nearly all of your post, but I must protest your harsh mark for Lloyd - I'd have him Good to Very Good. His performance yesterday is pretty much in line with his year as a whole - 21 disposals at 95% disposal efficiency, no clangers, no turnovers, always providing an outlet for the other defenders and having one of the best taggers in the game on your back.

You could be right re Lloyd- I was tempted to move him as you suggest as he had heaps of possessions over the season but often frustrates with hospital disposals. But happy to upgrade him as he did improve his kicking towards the end.

Same can be applied to Wilbur and Fox, as suggested- however they both have tendencies to go missing in games like Wilbur yesterday and Fox had a few shockers in between some solid games.

Another thing: some of the grammar on these comments need improving . There are at least three examples of “Would of” or “Should of”in these threads. You are confusing the verb “have” with the preposition “of”. So “would of” is “would have” , “could of” is “could have”, “should of” is “should have”.
If you are confused just use the shortened version should’ve.

Thank goodness someone is calling this butchering of the English language out! It’s a pet peeve of mine that people write like that. Is bad enough that people actually talk like that, but if they mumble, they might get away with poor pronunciation. Poor written expression is almost inexcusable.

Roosy always said that you judge a team on its bottom six, not its top six, and the Giants are WAY ahead of of us on that atm. We finished ahead of them because of their injuries. They have most of them back now and their list is outstanding. Yes I'm angry and frustrated that we lost, especially given that I think we were the better team and should have kicked straight in the fourth quarter, but I will make constructive criticisms and list observations, not turn things into a lynch mob.

I would suggest the use of 'inexcusable' is not a very nice way to describe it either. The teaching of grammar in Australian schools is almost an afterthought in the modern cirriculum, and there are plenty of other reasons why someone may not be able to execute high quality written expression. It is not a skill that everybody has, and saying it is almost inexcusable ignores the whole range of reasons why that might be the case.
