PS: I think it is unfair to single out the younger inexperienced, and not really match-fit players for under-performing today. We lost by ONE point!!!!!! After all, look at how Geelong crumbled under the pressure last night.

A lot happened in that game, but GWS had a big second quarter and we were on the back foot from then onwards. Unfortunate that we couldn't field a stronger team. Too many inexperienced and second tier players.

One of those games where a couple of things go the other way late in the game - like nailing a goal for example - and you're looking at the great escape win, instead of the narrowest loss.

Well, I'm pretty gutted. But proud of the team.

On the bright side in 7-8 months we could all be vaccinated, opened up and watching Buddy kick number 1000 at the SCG.
Totally agree Neilfws. There were a lot of incorrect disposals by GWS that weren’t paid as well. But our second quarter was bad and from there on we played catch- up. Great effort by the boys to get so close but let’s not forget Hogan had 2 posters as well. That said, those last few shots on goal: did luck simply desert us? Bell’s was the worst, but in my book he should never have played. Don’t know what our selectors were smoking but honestly, how can we have both Wicks and Bell in the team?

Thank you Swans for a huge year made so difficult by COVID- you did us proud and we look enthusiastically to next season. A few pieces need to be added to complete the puzzle and the defence needs a capable tall, as shown in this game for all to see.

I talked Chad up earlier. Said he was like the Millennium Falcon.

        This was Chad today unfortunately:

For coming from 16th to finals. For travelling all over the country due to COVID. For playing some exhilarating footy. For showing we’re on track for a big five years.

For today : for getting that close without two of our best three centre square players. For things like Rowbottom showing the way in the third quarter. For Tom McCartin showing again he’s a total gun. For Heeney being Heeney. And for never, ever giving up.

          I’m just proud.
I couldn't agree more. Im very proud of the team as well as the coaches and staff for what we had to go through this year.

            it these days.
And then the commentators call it brilliant play by the blocking defender. Unfortunately, we were very bad at it at critical times today & they scored from pretty much every forward entry in Q2.

Congratulations to the boys on a fantastic season. Premierships involve a little bit of pain from previous losses so today is just a step along the road. I really enjoy watching our new game style, even when we lose. Can’t wait till next year especially with the ladies as well.

Luke Hodge defending Toby Greene reminds me he committed one of the worst acts I’d seen on a footy field - when he tried to break Chad Wingard’s neck. So lucky for Wingard he didn’t, and Hodges legacy would be very different if he had.

Correct. And given by the umpire that he intimidated at 3Q time.

We almost made it! The last 1/4 was madness in the stand where I was as I had some feral Swans supporters behind me. Hickey took some enormous marks and the players played their hearts out. It just wasn't meant to be. Buddy's miss was critical and the the snap shots all went through the wrong posts.

I couldn't work out why we were kicking long down the line all the time especially 2nd and 3rd quarters. We were being out-marked so often and their crumbers were getting to the ball first. It seemed like we only played 'the Swans' way' in the last quarter. (I haven't heard JL's presser comments yet!)
It is definitely true that our slow starts which have been going on a lot in the 2nd half of the season really cost us. But we had our chances to still win, which will irk all summer long.
