I think he’s talking about Rowie’s uncle, & former Richmond player, Brian Taylor, not TheBloods.

No, goswannies- first he talks about BT as you say, but in his last line he is talking about our very own TB!!

No wonder Richmond are willing to give him their blessing to move on, that's a massive chunk of salary cap for a bloke whose taken mental health leave
We didn't exit our last big$ contract player that had taken mental health leave. In fact there's some suggestion he be given a contract next year.

                  Lol

                  Back to business.

Martin is a draw card and difference maker like Franklin. I think he could do wonders to bring Chad’s game forward. Chad could learn from the master.

If someone that good wants to come to a two team town then you have to ask the question.

Getting Dusty would be a "jumping the shark" recruitment move - some of your original ideas seem to depend on a lot of wishful thinking. So your thought for today is: If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

And as for Chad "learning from the master"
                    a) He has been playing alongside the outright all-time AFL leader in clearances and contested possessions for his entire AFL carer.
                    and
                    b) There's no more evidance that Chad would learn from the master than that Martin would impede Chad's development.

Let's leave aside for a second the (not inconsiderable) issue of what we'd have to sacrifice to get Dusty - cap space, player/s, draft pick/s.

He doesn't actually fit our list profile and build. It's likely 2021 was our 2008 - that is, we had a shot at grabbing a flag before our time like Hawthorn did.

It's more likely our real window opens around 2024 - when we still have players like Papley, Heeney, P McCartin and Mills in the prime, but our elite young crew like Logan McDonald, Chad, McInerney, Campbell, T McCartin, Gulden etc really hit their peak. Dusty's about to turn 32. He ain't likely to still be going that strong in the years 2024 and beyond, and it's easy to mount a case that if we're going to pinch a player from somewhere, it needs to be a KPF to partner Logan.

Dusty feels like a salary cap dump to me. Given our success in dumping on other clubs I’m sure we’d see this a mile off?

Maybe for a 3rd rounder and the Tigers pay half?

What about a couple of out of contract players: Griffin Logue? Tim Taranto?

Also wonder if Barrass is regretting his decision to stick with the Weagles?

I agree with the Richmond salary cap dump thesis, Mark. I also think that I'm Uninformed is correct in his view that 2024 should be our Premiership sweet spot assuming we manage to hold onto our key players and injuries are kind to us. I would only go for Dusty if Richmond helped pay his salary and we did not give up too much in trade picks. We have key players to re-sign like Ollie this year and Mills and Papley next. We need to the salary cap space to ensure that we can be competitive there. Its not likely that there is much space to land Dusty.

I think Martin's salary is 1.4million. Richmond would want to pay quite a lot of this as well as not having to give up much in trade picks. Personally I hope the club doesn't try and get him just keep investing in the current roster.

$1.4 million per year! They would need to pay us half!

Still, comparisons are always interesting. Changing football codes, Manchester City have just signed a very promising 21-year old Norwegian player called Haaland who is currently playing in Germany. He will be on A$39 million per year on a long-term contract. Dusty is a bargain in comparison.

I think the best comparison is with Ablett when he moved from the suns. Still a top level player but not the gun he was.

Our list profile means he’ll block a youngster without the sustained high level of his peak years.

Great player, but not in our longer term interests. No thanks from me
