Maybe a Reid replacement (obviously apart from the back up ruck position)? Someone who can take a mark down the line? Not quite as tall/big though.
An option to let Blakey move up the ground a bit? Although I was kinda hoping the Gould getting a gig might allow that.

He has talent but has battled mental demons at Essendon (who wouldn't!) and interestingly chose to come to the anonymity of Sydney rather than home to the Adelaide fishbowl.

Has come to us for the right reasons, will get the best out of himself under our regime, how good that may be yet to be seen.

Future fourth is mid/late 60's that we wouldn't have used, slid back 5 spots but one of those pick 38 will be burned by Brisbane so only slid back 4. Will end up a late 30's pick.

Anyone know how many senior vacancies we now have after re-signing Harry and adding Francis?

We see him as an athletic, intercepting defender.

Francis is obviously still hopeful for a productive AFL career and this quote is a good sign.

"This gives me a great opportunity to play my best football. Sydney is a club with an excellent culture and great leadership and it’s probably the best environment for me to find my potential.

Hopefully I can provide some support in defence, and the coaching staff are really keen for me to realise my potential."

Guaranteed to be bargain basement. Do we know how many years we've signed him for?

                  ***

Also, what does our having identified the need for another of "these type of defenders" mean? Are we less bullish about Gould than we are saying publicly? Are Melican's cards marked? Could one of the McCartins (most likely Paddy) be shifted forward in 2024? Is it looking likely that Rampe will finish at the end of 2023?

Anyway, between Paddy and now Frang, we've gone a fair way to addressing our lack of KPD depth. There's still time to find out whether Amartey or McLean can be the future after Buddy and Reid go. [Plus if we play Ladhams forward when Hickey finishes Ladhams will likely move to the #1 ruck potentially freeing another forward spot.] More likely we need to hang in there and look for another KPF.

For a bloke about to be delisted by Essendon? - modest coin.

I don't mind the get of Francis but given our spectacular GF capitulation, wouldn't mind getting in some mentally tough players in the mold of Brett Kirk.

If Francis gives us good service like Ted Richards did, we will be the better for him.

He will enjoy his time in Sydney.

He seems to be a different player to Teddy. More talented, less gritty.

It's no secret that Melican has been shopped around and probably 2023 will be his last with the Swans. So that just leaves Gould, and untried player, as our only depth KPP, so identifying the need for another defender is quite logical.

Most of us on here think it would be nice to get a tall defender to match up against those 2 metre forwards proliferating around the league. I don't know what Beatson thinks about Keeler, and I'm sure he wouldn't be tipping his hand if he was keen on him. In any case, there aren't too many in this year's draft, so it looks as though we will remain a shortish defence for a while longer.

We like number 5 draft picks. Jarrad McVeigh, Dylan Stephens, Aaron Francis, Braeden Campbell, in order of what they have achieved so far (I have Dyl slightly ahead with less games played, but some very impactful ones). Apart from Jarrad McVeigh, the rest have a lot to deliver still, but they all have shown glimpses.

Ted was a bit soft when he arrived at Sydney. He "came of age" in the 2006 GF when he absolutely ran himself into the ground as we tried to make up the deficit right up to the final siren. From that point on, the Ted we came to love truly emerged.
