Had his ups and downs after his great game in 2006 GF. Pretty sure he spent time in 2s and was even thinking about giving it away at one stage. The latter part of his career was outstanding and his effort on Buddy in 2012 GF when he was on one leg was unbelievable. Grundy and Ted were the lynchpins of a great defence along with Nick Smith.

Yep - that game was the making of him. Stood up then and in 2012.
I love an unexpected GF breakout performer (here's to you LRT and Luffy while we're at it).

          2022 List management, trading, drafting

Remember a couple of years ago, when the Swans were criticised mightily by the footy media, Barrett in particular, over their ‘failure” to trade out Papley and land Daniher? How the Saints “won” trade week? Apart from one or two major moves each year, it’s mostly meaningless shuffling of the deck chairs which gives said media something else to carry on about.
Sorry to sound so cynical about it, but the whole business seems pretty overblown. Lots of guys not getting regular games trying their luck elsewhere; sometimes it pays off, more often than not it doesn’t.
Having said that, more than happy to give Aaron Francis a go in Sydney. Hopefully it’ll be the making of him.

If the player we want is still there, on draft night we should offer Saints picks 14 & 17 for 9 & 28.

If that doesn't work, and the same player is still available, we could offer Carlton a similar deal for picks 10 & 29.

If neither of those things work out and there has been no bid on Alwyn Dave by our pick 17, we should offer the Dons picks 17 & 42 in return for picks 22 and their future 2nd.

Media gives ticks for players moving clubs but it's a nett zero game as the whole exercise doesn't increase the talent pool, it just moves it around.

A number of clubs have thin draft hands this year and have a look at the 2023 draft order on Big Footy's Draft and Trading board, there's a number of clubs thin next year as well.

I did like the analysis on Fox tonight that sort of gave us a tick for targeting just one specific player rather than a scatter gun approach of chasing everyone. Pointed out that the highly praised big draft hauls of Essendon and Saints in previous years actually amounted to nothing.

All good suggestions, and real possibilities.

Essendon mentioned that they are interested in trading down from pick 4. We, along with WCE are in the best position to do that trade, if it suits. WCE traded down to go to picks 8 and 12. They probably figure they can get the best rated West Australian in Gimbey with pick 8, so why move back up the draft? If that trade did take place where we swap 14 + 17 for pick 4, we might end up with Bailey Humphrey.

Crazy to suggest but i wonder if the 2nd round swap and late pick for francis sets us up for trading up the board with essendon

We essentially could have got him for nothing

Pressure be on Dodoro not to be a d8ckhead for too much longer

I can't see Dodoro offering a reasonable deal to others to acquire the Bombers' early pick. I will be very surprised if we do any business with them on this - others may be more accomodating.

I expect the Swans to go the draft with our existing picks and select best available. Hopefully, a great prospect or two will slip through to our pick numbers.

I have to say I find the expression "list clogger" a pretty harsh way to describe a footballer. I get that there probably isn't quite enough
talent to go around all 18 clubs, but they can all actually play football.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I thought a bit about whether we could get Essendon's pick 4 but I don't think we can. No way will they trade it for picks 14 & 17 (even if that would be a fair exchange in terms of DVI points). I actually wasted time trying to figure out a three way deal between Essendon, us and Geelong that would see Essendon slide back three places, Geelong move up to pick 4 and us give our two first rounders in exchange for picks 7 & 25. After about 10 minutes I belatedly realised that I was double counting pick 7 and giving it to both us and Essendon which, of course, didn't work. D'oh!

It's interesting that clubs are so willing to churn players. To me it shows impatience and a reluctance to develop young players. I am so pleased that we have continued along the same path of going to the draft. I applaud Sam Mitchell of building through the draft.

Can one of our RWO experts update on where we stand going into this year's draft - who has retired, been delisted, still uncontacted and finally drafted this week. And what does that leave us in picks for the National Draft. Thank you in advance

We have at least three senior places so will take three ND picks you would assume. The unsigned will be hoping for rookie list spots. It is tight though.
