Also really like Goulds game , not sure what more he has to do to earn a call up

Yes Gould was very impressive. Hard at it and an excellent kick.

Disagree about the negative comments on O'Riordan. I thought he was one of our better players in the 2nd half. I like Fox as well and think we can play both in the same side, but it means we have to drop some regulars to do it.

Based on the VFL performances, giving consideration to the weak opposition, and the AFL game, I would suggest the following changes for next week:

        In -------------------- Out
        Amartey ------- Franklin
        Hickey --------- Ladhams
        Ronke --------- Wicks
        Gould -------- Lloyd
        Fox ----------- Florent

I thought Campbell was only so - so and didn't impress enough to win a spot in the seniors, at least not based on this performance. Plenty of players were better.

Stephens faded out in the 2nd half after a mediocre 1st half. He's becoming more of a worry with each passing week.

My comments are not negative with respect to O'Riordan - I just think Fox is clearly a better player and contributor to the team.

            100% agreed
I agree 100% with the 100% agree. Though opposition was poor a great performance by Hall-Kahan in just his third VFL game. Definitely has to replace Wicks. Hickey to replace Ladhams. Fox to replace COR.Love to also see Amartey play up forward. Maybe give Buddy a rest?

Was it HK's third VFL game or his second? We had the bye last weekend and I think his first was the week before.

(Unless he played a VFL game for another side before being drafted by the Swans.)

I'm not singling you out. There were others who were more negative. I rate Fox and COR fairly even, perhaps giving the nod to Fox. But I would like to see COR get a run of games to see what level he can get up to. He's still only 26 and could be a real bonus if he could become a regular in the seniors. He's quite a good kick and capable of picking out open players. He was put in some really bad positions in the game yesterday where he had no options except to take the tackle. He opened up well in the 2nd half.

I think we've been really poor defending the ground ball inside our defensive zone. I'm looking at other options that might help rectify this, but it's not going to happen after just a couple of games. I don't think COR hurts our side. It's only a matter to see to what level he can contribute.

We've seen Fox do a fine job when he's strung games together, and like him in the side, maybe as an alternative to Lloyd, who hasn't been that great this year. There was a time when I thought we really suffered with Lloyd out of the team, but not so much now, and with free agency coming up for him, I would like to see some other options.

As for HHK, he was very impressive and looked an absolute gun. But it's only one game. I don't think he should come into the senior side just based on one game, however good it might have been. I would like to see more of his defensive work and how he goes against tougher opposition. Ronke had a great game as well and would be a more reliable alternative to Wicks than a skinny kid coming in for his first AFL game. HHK will get his chance soon enough if he can repeat today's performance.

I believe he played one game for Frankston.

I feel as if some are reading a bit too much into the reserves performance against a team second last on the ladder. This year we have already seen Armatey, Roberts, Ronke and to a lesser extent Bell do well in the reserves then do little in the seniors. I am not suggesting that some of them won't become decent AFL players but I would be a lot more enthused had they starred against Melbourne reserves.

I disagree with COB regarding the win today. It is the way our reserves team won against one of the bottom teams. That's what we need this team to do each week to build confidence and team first attitude in our next generation talent. Our team is mid level on the VFL ladder and need to build on this to put pressure on our first team players and give the selectors a headache. I know we have some real talent in the VFL group and it's only confidence and continuity that's holding some of them back. I agree with Ludwig regarding Fox and COR, they are similar and yet different in what they each offer. To me, they are in our 25. I want to see more from Campbell by giving him continuity to build his confidence, something he is not being given a chance at the moment.

Campbell flew to Adelaide, wasn't used as the medi sub, then flies to Melbourne. Did someone also say he had only played one game in four, having been the medi sub a couple of times.

The Stephens situation intrigues me, partly because we saw a lot of outstanding glimpses in his first year.

I personally thought he was stiff to be dropped after rd3. His first two games were good and then yes, he was a bit down in the next, but not so bad he was an obvious omission. It just have knocked his confidence a bit, but having said that - you’d hope he’d be resilient about it and I’ll accept he hasn’t been great since.

Personally, I hope he and the coaches can get him back to his best, as that’s a serious talent going to waste otherwise.

Agree with you rickmat and I was also happy with the win and also believe we have talent in the reserves. I just get more excited by good performances against good opposition than poor ones. Nearly all of them are skilful it is how they handle pressure that interests me. Still can't do more than thrash weak opposition.

Two drop Buddy posts, in the VFL thread - and no refutations.
Be interesting to see what happens in the next Pre-Game thread.
