Strawman argument - that wasnt my point. Gina reinhart never purported to control anything but if you would like to live in a country where the government controls everything , there are some fine countries around the world where you can go . Its always been an overwhelming success.

Even here in Australia , governments have proven in the past that they are just so efficient in spending your money .

You’ve lost the plot starting to come out with that “go live somewhere else” c@&p. This is a great decision for women’s sport, which is equally as deserving of support as men’s sport. If you believe governments don’t spend money on men’s sport, there’s a stadium next to the SCG I’m willing to sell you.
As for governments spending money on useless projects, there’s no shortage across the spectrum. Better an investment in human capital and future tourism than feathering Gerry Harvey’s bank balance.

It is an absolute disgrace when a government of any persuasion can wilfully give away taxpayers money.

This is a two-party contract.

In return for the $15 million over five years Victoria will get:

. Vic tourism branding including logo on netballers uniforms
. Players and coaches involved in tourism campaigns, of particular relevance in build-up to Commonwealth Games - in which netball is a significant event - in four regional Victorian towns in 2026
. Netball will play five Test matches and hold their high performance camps in Victoria between 2023 and 2026
. the Super Netball GF will be held in Vic in 2023
. Support for grassroots netball particularly in culturally diverse communities.


You and others may not agree these provide sufficient return, but it isn’t accurate to describe the sponsorship as simply a ‘give away’.

C'mon folks, it's very rare for any sport or sportsperson or team (including ours) not to put their hand out for money from
pretty much anywhere. I get it, it's nice to sit around and think your team or sport or even you yourself are all squeaky
clean and upstanding. But it's bull@@@@ really. And we all kinda know it. With footy, I just concentrate on what happens on
the field. It's just more fun than the stuff that enabled the game to take place in the first place. That's called the real world.

the hand that feeds them the large bulk of the time. But very occasionally they will, and that's fine. But Pat Cummins taking a 10%
paycut (or Isaac Heeney taking a 20% pay cut as he did in 2020) is going to hurt them a whole lot less than the average Joe Schmo
working in club admin for $70K a year and lives paycheck to paycheck is going to be hurt by losing all his or her income.
I can see how the netball player thought wearing the Rinehart company logo was a bridge too far for her.

This little saga just goes to show that if the executives of these sporting organisations just put a little bit more effort in there are plenty of good companies willing to sponsor them.

I don’t accept that it’s EITHER money OR principle. And I think Netball Australia demonstrates that.

Let’s be frank about it. Netball Australia screwed this up and no doubt would have handled it differently should a similar situation arise again. They were very lucky the Victorian Tax Payers bailed them out.
All sporting clubs will have learnt from this.

You are kidding right - government sponsorship from Dan Andrews government is not corporate sponsorship - its hardly a lesson for anyone except that the most left leaning government entity in Australia is doing exactly what left leaning governments always do and would love to see - government control of everything.

Victoria currently has a projected $9.7 billion debt for the current year, which equates to $1.45 million for each man, woman and child living in the state. You simply cannot call this responsible management.
