Would not like us giving up our 2 top picks. We have an opportunity to draft 2 top 20 talent to meet our future needs. As Ludwig and others have said, a tall back and ruck/forward perhaps. And with our third pick, the best available left in the Draft pool. I trust in KB to spring a surprise on Draft night, much the same as last year with Sheldrick, who I believe will be a star and difference maker in the mids. Go Swannies

SWANS CONFIRM INTEREST IN TRADING DOWN

AFL Draft 2022: Latest whispers, picks, trades, Melbourne offer to Essendon, three first-round picks, Sydney Swans, trade options

Sydney GM of list strategy and recruitment Kinnear Beatson has confirmed the club holds strong interest in trading away one of its two first-round picks at Monday night’s draft...

Beatson believes the draft pool has a clear top seven “that are going to be substantially good AFL players”, followed by 10 players in the second tier, before the draft gets very even.

"We've got Logan (McDonald) and that's about it, unless Joel (Amartey) and Hayden (McLean) can continue to progress," he said.

"Joel Amartey has been a bit of a frustrating one over the last couple of years because he's just had these little niggles, had a restricted pre-season last year because of OP (osteitis pubis), still think he's got a lot of promise, but he's got to start performing."

              Naughty Auntie LOL

Wondering if this talk about trading our firsts means we're confident we can get who we want with slightly later picks and can pick up some 2023 currency in the trade back.

We'd have a reasonably good feel for how keen other clubs are on our targets. I'm thinking here players like Weddle, Cowan, Barnett should still be there early on the second night

If we did do a trade with Carlton we’d potentially swap 14 and 17 (2186 points) for 10 and 29 (2048 points) plus a late future pick.

I trust the club's draft strategies knowing far more than a couch potatoe like me! If the above pick swaps does eventuate, I do hope pick 10 turns out to be the quality player they're anticipating as picks 14 & 17 looks more enticing on paper than 10 & 29. Hoping for the best as the draft still has that lottery feel to my untrained eyes!

A whisper I heard suggests there's a fair chance we may trade forward in the draft tonight. If we did 14 & 17 for 10 & 29, I'd be inclined to take that. However I also read that KB said there are 7 players we rate in the top tier of the draft and then another tier of about 10 (contrary to the first tier of 10 players followed by a second tier of 20 players nominated by Simon Dalrymple) and so presumably we wouldn't trade up unless we thought we were going to get one of the players we rate top 7.

We all like to think we're knowledgeable draft watchers but reality is we'd be dreadful at it. We don't know the big picture strategy that spans several years and we may already be talking to potential future FA. We make assessments of potential draftees based on a two minute highlights package.

Whilst some or many of us may be disappointed with what happens tonight, and to a lesser extent tomorrow night, we have one of, if not the best recruiting team in the league. We have to trust the strategy around any pick trades and who they actually draft.

                      Bring it on

Absolutely 707! I have a high level of faith in our recruiters and list managers. They are pretty well the best in the business.

The swap with Carlton suggested above makes most sense when you match it up with Kinnear's comments about our succession planning with KPFs. 10 gets us in prime position to grab Jefferson. I've not seen a lot of him, though he does seems a bit more flanker than true KPF to me. Having said that, he's clearly the second best KPF in the draft after Cadman.

A bit of a public slap to Armetey there by Beatson: "but he's got to start performing". Obvious frustration there but also recognising the adverse impact of injuries.

He's been giving out the slaps, KB. Gave Riley Beveridge a pretty fearsome one for asking a ridiculously dumb question.

To be fair the full Amartey quote is: "still think he's got a lot of promise, but he's got to start performing." I reckon he's got heaps of upside Amartey, hope he gets a chance to show it in 2023
