Credit where credit is due, GWS didnt bid on Ashcroft, affording our brothers-in-arms Brisbane to not have to go into trade deficit this year. Brisbane is also a non-enemy.

I am not sure the outcome is so sweet. Except we got extra picks for next year's Academy boys, Cleary & Cabor.

Will pick 27 get Barnett? Probably not. Cowan? Definitely not. He will probably be first or second cab off the rank today. Then who are we chasing at 27?

Not sure our first pick fills a huge deficiency. Although he does look a good player who is two way. For a small forward that is good.

I wonder if we will draft a lock down key defender at some stage? Maybe next year. I noticed Beaton was hinting at a Key Forward. He seems not to be very impressed with Amartey, although did say he has had injury issues, or McLean. He stated Amartey would have to start performing very soon. I think the same could be said of McLean. If Amartey gets a good Pre-season behind him it might make a difference. He has such a huge amount of talent. I also think we could use him differently. I would love to see him leading out of the goal square. Leading, not just there as an aerial prop.

The northern academies are our lifeblood. Any stuffing around of pathways for NSW born kids to get to Sydney should be avoided. Both NSW teams are compromised in the draft because there is a significant number of player who refuse to move here.
We made GWS pay a higher price for a 'local' kid. They have to pay higher prices for all the other kids too. I would hate it if they returned the favour in the coming years. Totally unnecessary.
Ah, so now the truth comes out. GWS have never done us a single favour. Not one. We owe them nothing.

At least he is not from around Geelong District or they would already have the trade docs ready for 2 years time

After reviewing what talent is left, I'm confident that KB and team will pick 2 talented kids who meet our future needs - a tall back and hopefully George, if he is still there

The relationship with GWS around players has been very cordial. We've never poached any of their players, and they haven't ours.

We are acting like mini Dodoros. The worst insult in AFL circles.

How can you say that pick 19/20 and pick 37/38 next year is not a good outcome? Hawthorn have a very real chance of coming last next year. Have you seen their list now that Gunston, O'Meara and Mitchell are gone? The live trade was a massive haul for us.

In regards to Cabor and Cleary, at this stage they are not that as highly rated by other "experts" as you may think. They both made the Academy squad but even so, they are both ranked outside the top 30 in lists I've seen. At this stage we will have picks 18, 19,3 6, and 37 before either of them gets a bid.

Well I have no idea if that's what they were trying to achieve but it all made for compelling viewing! I was on the edge of my seat. It all look very calculated and scenarioed and as AB Swannie says above, the Hawks look raging favourites for the wooden spoon so that future pick swap should pay back in spades. I guess the clip to GWS and the Crows along the way was just for fun!

The only aspect I'm not entirely delighted with is going for another small - even without Ronke and Bell, surely we have these options on the list today, or can find them in the rookies just as we did with Paps, Wicks and Ronke. Still, I did love the lad's enthusiasm!

I think you are misreading what happened with the Rowston bid.

Now that the picks are in, we know that Konstanty was the player we wanted, because we had the opportunity to take Weddle or Ed Allen, but passed. Cal Twomey had the Giants taking Konstanty with pick 16, and given his accuracy rate, it was fair to assume that the Giants would have got in before our second pick to nab him

We have a great offer from Hawthorn for our original pick 14, but need to find a way to get both Konstanty and the do the Hawthorn trade, which would mean finding a way to make Konstanty available at our 2nd pick. The only way to do that was to force GWS to bid on Rowston, thus forfeiting the spot ahead of us, allowing us to sneak in and get Konstanty. And that's the way it played out.

Do you think we should have given up what we wanted to accomplish in the draft just to play nice with the Giants?

It wasn't the Giants. We would have done the same whatever club was sitting between us and getting the deals done. Nothing vindictive here.

And look how happy we made the Konstanty family. They probably started the night thinking he was heading to the Giants, but surprise, surprise!

People who believe another small pressure forward wasn’t a priority is kidding themselves. What was the only position that was a merry go round last year? The one where they tried half the list and failed - Bell, Wicks, Ronke, Campbell, Roberts ….
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

We are fairly flexible in drafting a KPP, because we have so many players that play both ends of the ground. If we overload with key defenders, either of the McCartins, Blakey or Francis can play forward. We probably won't want to do too much swapping around, but it can be done. If both Gould and Francis play well and earn spots in our defence, we are likely to move Blakey to CHF.

The only quality true forwards left on table are Gruzewski, who can play both ends, and Keeler, and Gruzewski is a good chance to be gone by pick 27, so if we don't rate Keeler, the next best would be to go for Barnett or Hayes. Those 4 rank as the best talls left and surely at least one will be available at our pick 27, so it just depends how our LM team rate them.

We may take a smokey at 27 or just see who slips down. As always, anything is possible.
