It was also very interesting that the grand final was the worst rating grand final since the AFL was formed. This seems counter intuitive because every time a sydney team is in the grand final, the NSW ratings make up way more than is lost in victoria. Even a similar blow-out, by a lowly GWS rated better. And this is after the best rating final series ever.

So, you can only draw the conclusion that the Hawthorn racial scandal had a big impact on the lay-mans interest in AFL.
Facts are a marvellous thing, and often worth consuming even when opinion smells more tempting. The facts are that the viewership was worse than 2021 and 2020, when most of the country was legally required to sit inside its house and watch the TV, but viewership was (slightly) higher than 2019. Kind of makes sense really.
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form

To respond to allegations about a report they'd never heard of? That report? Gee, I wonder why they didn't rush in.

In a funny quirk of timing, I'm currently reading Eddie Betts' book. On p 145 he's just mentioned how he and Clarkson became close on the international tour of 2015. Maybe there's a twist later.

Allegations about mistreatment of Sam Mitchell by Clarkson now.

Fresh allegations emerge of Alastair Clarkson’s controlling behaviour

If Clarkson was so ruthless with his best player about football over family, how are young fringe players going to speak up?

'Never heard of'? For a start, they already knew Hawthorn were doing this review. Plus, they heard about more of it's contents of it as soon as Russell Jackson rang them, maybe not in detail but they knew enough about it to at least respond.

Don't think there is too much that can be misconstrued from what I've read so it's still a simple case of one of the two groups is lying depending on whether these events occurred. The Newbold email would indicate that they did occur in at least one case.

Full confidence in the AFL to get the true facts and if necessary wear the consequences - hahahahahahahaha, as if! AFL PR Dept working overtime on this

And now Kennett is trying to minimise the whole thing. He never changes.

So, unviable in Melbourne. Door agar in Tassie. Need access to players (Tassie academy?)
I agree with you barry about Clarkson. I know it is just someone's word against his but the damage has been done. He has always had a nasty streak. Look up the video for the "Battle of Britain" between North and Carlton for evidence.

Yes...that disgusting footage is damning. Can't believe a person of that ilk ever got to be known and respected as 'the master coach'.....it's almost as if that deplorable incident has been wiped from history.

He is a repeat offender. Everyone knows this. But swearing at and getting into a barney with an umpire official at an Under 9s
game. That's the one he can never live down.

The Carlton player - Ian Aitken was never the same after getting his jaw broken badly.

If it happened now I believe there would definitely be legal action. If any younger Members (under 40 say) have not seen the footage you should be able to find it on youtube.

Everyone deserves a presumption of innocence but the latest issue is going to be EXTREMELY hard to prove or disprove.

Like Leigh Matthews’ hit on Neville Bruns has been.

Yeah but that was a longer ago - still shameful. I believe Matthews did get some court action but it was so long ago I forget.

The old VFA was even worse. Port Melbourne champion goal kicker Freddy Cook got his jaw broken in a Grand final in the first quarter - about 1979 I think.

He came off and told Port legend Norm Goss Snr (whose two sons played for South) that he couldnt go on because of a broken jaw.

I believe Norm Snr's response was "You don't kick with your bloody jaw - get back on"

I remember watching the VFA matches on Channel 0 (now 10) on Sunday afternoon's in the 70's. You were almost guaranteed to see a brawl (often all-in) or a coward punch....it was brutal and at times, completely mindless.

It's almost like the VFA wanted a 'point of difference' for viewers of the more popular VFL....and it seemed that difference was straight out thuggery.

Yes the off field stuff was bad - it was pretty brutal on field too lol.

Does anyone know if there is a video of the Matthews assaults on the footy field? He puts Clarkson to shame.
