Port Melbourne's defender Phillips dominated the backline yesterday. At 23 years old and with our decimated backline, surely he must be on the Swans radar for mid season draft.

He dominated against a forward line with no tall forwards (well, none remotely close to AFL standard) and against a team who, despite having no quality tall forwards, have a forward delivery strategy of long, aimless bombs.
He might be prove to be a decent defender at AFL level, and is certainly being talked about in mid-season draft dispatches, but I wouldn't be basing any assessment of his potential on yesterday's game.Comment

Didn't see the game last night, but for the people on here who did, how did Konstanty look? I see he's finally kicked his first goal in red and white, but still only had 3 kicks for the entire match!
I know it's still early, but are we right to be getting a little concerned yet?

Konstanty did nothing. He kicked his goal from a goal square free kick. He has a long way to go to rise to the level of a struggling VFL player.Didn't see the game last night, but for the people on here who did, how did Konstanty look? Konstanty. Vickery, Mitchell, Edwards and Owen were all poor in the VFL game with each having less than ten disposals. Of the draftees only Magor may have received a pass mark while Weddle is starting to look like an excellent KPP for the hawks. Not looking good at the moment for Beatson and Dalrymple.Comment

Mitchell from what I could gather was on limited minutes and made a positive impact in the third and fourth quarters imo.Konstanty. Agree that Konstanty is a worry and Vickery was disappointing given that he has played one or two good games.
Edwards had a down day possession wise but I'm not sure whether he beat his man though, and he did a couple of good things, I am not worried about him.
Magor will be OK when he has finished his penance down back and is put back to his true position up forward.
Owen is years off.

Where's Konstanty been playing? Is he the small forward in forward line of small players? Tough gig, especially if the ball never gets down there.Comment

Yes. Incredibly difficult role in which to have any impact.
He also looks like he's suffering from the injury he had early in the year. Whether it's just a lack of conditioning or he's still a bit sore, I have no idea. But he looks to be labouring a bit.
I wouldn't be judging his potential on what he's producing right now. I watched him in a couple of training sessions before Christmas and he looked sharp and lively.Comment

Good to hear Liz (the before Christmas stuff) as I have had great concerns from what I've seen so far!Yes. Incredibly difficult role in which to have any impact.

To be honest, when we drafted him I thought it was actually a decent pick as we needed another quality small forward in the Papley mould and his highlights looked impressive so I hope it's more injury holding him back than him struggling to move up a level.

By the way, Corey Warner was only one of our players to poll in the coaches votes from the last game, with 6 votes. Hopefully he'll keep improving as an inside mid, as I think we need a bit more explosive pace around the contests.Comment
