Fairly uninspiring first quarter. Although it's nice to see Hickey back. He looks a touch rusty, but he's working his way into it. Also nice that Kirk and Cleary have had a fair amount of game time as inside mids. Both doing pretty well: better than the commentators, who have been constantly confused between Cleary and Crocker. Sheldrick probably our best.

We have injuries but we are up against a side that did not win a game last year. Can someone tell me where we got this coach from? We don't know how to shepherd, we don't know how to use bodywork on your opponent, No fast flow on play, poor kicking and no creativity especially up forward.Comment

Another one of those quarters where the effort has been good, but disposals and cohesion have been ordinary. Sheldrick has been our best, but missing a few too many targets. Sheather had a good quarter on the half back flank, and I wouldn't mind him getting a run in midfield. Warner tends to look dangerous when he gets it. McAndrew and Hickey rucking well. Cleary looking pretty good at VFL level as an inside mid. For those a bit confused, he's nuggety looking guy, with the short dark hair, in number 65, that the commentators keep on calling Crocker. Curiously, they've also occasionally given that name to both Collis and Morrison. The real Crocker is the slim number 53 in defence, who they insist on calling Cleary.Comment

I like some of what Owen has done today. Raw and a lot to develop, but something to work with.
Sheldrick into the seniors next week please. A lot to like.
Young Kirk has some real potential. Not looking overawed at all.

Good that things clicked for long enough to get in front at the final break. Like the way that Sheldrick has been going hard all day. Good work by Shipley in the lead up to the Hall-Kahan goal. And it appears that Kirk's improvement at academy level this year has been genuine, rather than just playing as an over-ager.Comment

To be honest other than Sheldrick (and Hickey obviously) there is next to nothing in the VFL who is banging the door down to play senior football. Which is a scary prospect considering our performance last night...
