I went out to Casey and caught the second half. I thought the Swans showed some commitment but poor disposal coming out of the backline was costly. Overall Casey were the better team.
As for the individual players, I don't see the reserves often so am a little unsure of who is who. Francis and McLean both did little. I don't know if Francis touched the ball whilst I was watching and at three quarter time he stood off by himself. Not his best day, I hope we can get more out of him. In contrast, McLean was quite vocal during the break and was talking through the game with other forwards. I didn't stay at the huddle for the coaches talk - the language was getting a bit colourful and my impressionable 8 and 4 year olds didn't need to hear that!
As for players, McAndrew has potential to become a very good ruckman. His centre bounce work was terrific but he tended to get outbodied around the ground. A lot of potential though.
Sheldrick needs to play senior footy. He is too good for this level.
Gould struggled but a couple of times tried to create some run from the backline and was let down by trying dinky kicks. I think he can make it but really needs to get some games in the seniors, and I think the only way that happens is through injury.
Warner seems to go ok and number 32 did some nice things.

The chips were good too.
Thanks!
McAndrew does seem to have come on well. Probably justifies letting Naismith go.
It is going to be a pretty long year for our reserves team I suspect.
I fully support the move to shuffle on some of the experienced players on the list last year, but it leaves it threadbare for both genuine depth and also wise heads to lead the reserves.
The parts of the two games I've seen the endeavour is definitely there, and there are some good moments. Hopefully as the season progresses and we see natural improvement, there will be more of those and a reasonable amount of wins too.
McAndrew has a long way still to go, but been impressed by his progression since last season. Obviously has worked hard in the off season - great to see.

I disagree that it will be a long year for the reserves. Their tackling and general play is quite good but the kicking is woeful. I suspect it will improve as the season progress and expect them to finish about the middle of the ladder.

I think we also struggle relative to the Melbourne teams because we can't attract VFL squad players of the same calibre. Shipley is a solid squad player, probably Bartholomeaus too. Morrison was handy last year, in a side with a functioning forward line but I didn't think he offered much yesterday. I enjoyed the endeavour yesterday of Endemann, but he's as young and inexperienced as our new crop of draftees.
I'm not sure the rest would get a look in at a Melbourne VFL side, though maybe it's too early to call on Haley.

Important point Liz and well made as always.

I have little doubt we will improve quite a bit, but as well articulated (as always) by Liz we are always going to struggle to get good quality VFL listed players of the calibres of others, alongside being short on players with decent senior experience this year. Throw in a standard level of injuries over a season and it'll be a tough old season.
I like how we are trying to play, and undoubtedly cohesion and teamwork will improve as the season progresses. But still think we are destined for a pretty long year results wise - but we know that is just part of the equation with the reserves as well.

Number 32 Jaiden Magor, the kid can play, reckon he'll prove to be a Rookie Draft steal
A few things that Magor did were impressive. His field kicking was good on a team where it was generally of a low standard. Hope he gets a more prominent role in future games. All the young guys need coaching.

He has amazing speed too.
