I wonder if, when we delist a player (like Ronke - or Taylor or Bell), we give them the option of switching to the VFL list? I can imagine that after having been in the big time some of them wouldn't fancy that. And a player like Ronke might prefer to go home to Victoria if he's only going to be playing VFL either way. But a player like Bell would have been a great asset to our VFL team and isn't he playing in the SANFL now? If he really got back into form he could potentially be re-listed down the track. I think Geelong have done that with some of their players (but I'm not sure).

I can't find the reference, but I thought I read that our VFL players were on $15k a year. Pretty slim pickings.

I agree those pickings are slim. Can see why it wouldn't be tempting for many delisted players. But, if they're going to go and play for another VFL/SANFL/WAFL team, won't they be in pretty much the same boat? And for a young delisted player they may not be ready to give up on playing AFL and may want to continue to give themselves the opportunity to be re-listed.

According to an announcement of AFL released in Nov 2021, the 2022 Salary Cap was $220,000 for VFL standalone clubs and $110,000 for the AFL and AFL-aligned outfits.
Swans has listed 19 VFL squad members (not including the AFL isted players). Don't think they can get much!

I suspect they get more (or have the opportunity to get more) in the SANFL, which is where a lot of our ex-academy players seem to go. And there is an advantage to playing in a team that isn't aligned to an AFL club in that they have the chance to be a more integral part of the team, rather than get shifted around / demoted according to the availability and development goals of the listed AFL players.

It would be hard for a player like Bell to go from being a full member of the AFL squad to an auxiliary member. Plus I reckon a change of scenery, and the chance to learn from different coaches that don't have years of built up perceptions of you as a player, would also be appealing.

The VFL team for tomorrow's game against North has been announced: VFL side named to face North Melbourne

                Francis and Gould both selected!

I assumed they would name Gould because he was also named in the emergencies but the Francis one is a real headscratcher

wonder if Joel Crocker is the ex North Melbourne player

Getting pumped by North Melbourne but I reckon we should have a look/think about drafting Shipley. Been our best in the VFL this year alongside Sheldrick

Swans kick 6 goals in the first half of the third quarter and now we only trail by 10!

UPDATE: of course as soon as I post this North kick 3 in a row ...

McAndrew could be an interesting in for the AFL side too. Looks to have improved leaps and bounds

Not watching, but notice Sheldrick has paused on 10 disposals. Is it possible to determine whether he's been rested or injured?

Yes, that all makes a lot of sense liz.

We should find out from the club in about 3 weeks if anything serious

I'm also curious about what's going on with Caleb Mitchell. Pretty sure he didn't play and I don't remember hearing anything about him being injured.
