I know with our injury list we'd only field half a side but anyone know why there's so many byes in the VFL? A number of sides didn't play yesterday

Very strange disturbing for sure. We have had 2 byes so far along with Werribee and Frankston but there are other teams with no byes.

Also why have the bye when the Sydney teams are playing each other in the AFL. I would’ve thought it’s the perfect fixture to have it as a curtain raiser so save costs on the VFL. instead the giants VFL side goes to Melbourne to play.

And next week instead of playing Collingwood we play Frankston while they play Williamstown. Why not swap these matchups?

From the few games I have seen of McAndrew I have been impressed by his improvement since last year and if his progress continues on upward trend I believe we will have a very good ruckman.

This is the team for the away game against Frankston at 12.05pm today. Although one of Sheldrick, Warner, Francis or McAndrew will go out of the team, to be sub against Collingwood.

                B: W. Edwards (28), L. Melican (43), J. Brown (50)
                HB: L. Rankin (41), A. Francis (10), W. Gould (17)
                C: C. Vickery (25), A. Sheldrick (29), D. Stephens (3)
                HF: J. Magor (32), H. Hall-Kahan (45), C. Owen (40)
                F: J. Konstanty (18), L. McAndrew (46), C. Haley (53)
                R: T. Hickey (31), C. Warner (37), N. Shipley (52)
                INT: T. Longmire (58), I. Kirk (54), J. Bartholomaeus (47), W. Collis (51), J. Tidemann (66)
                EMG: M .Geddes, H. Morrison, J. Endemann, T. Howard, N. McGill, J.Crocker

                IN: A. Francis, W. Gould, C. Haley, L. Melican, D. Stephens, J. Tidemann
                OUT: M. Sheather (AFL), T. Alker, C. Cleary, J. Crocker, M. Geddes, H. Morrison
NEW: James Tidemann, 18, North Shore Bombers/Swans Academy

Looks quite a strong side, with a bit more experience in defence, strong ruck rotation and with Stephens sure to be keen to work his way back to the top grade. Also good that Kirk is getting another run.

Couple of ex-Swans in the Frankston side. Riley Stoddardt, who I thought was a bit unlucky to be delisted, and Pierce Roseby, a former academy midfielder, who was probably close to being rookie listed.

A couple of those players are going to drop out as they have named all the emergencies for the senior side. One will make his way into the side via the sub spot, and at least one more is likely to travel down to Melbourne with the squad as emergency. Maybe one plus McAndrew (as cover for Ladhams). I've seen McAndrew milling around with the senior team in the rooms pre-match in most (if not all) away games this year.

Maybe they'll play McAndrew (and the shorter emergency) for the first half only.

Looks like Sheldrick and Francis out of the final VFL side, so the AFL sub will be one of these.

Stoddart has a serious shot at midseason draft selection. I think we should have kept him too. I'm interested to see who plays better, Stoddart or Stephens.

What would that prove in a game at VFL level?

I'm quite enjoying having a few outspoken Swans fans near the effects mike. I have a similar view of the umpiring.

Agree about the umpiring; both the calls and non-calls.

For Nico: Frankston leading 39-31 at HT.

HHK playing well. Gould is doing okay too. Hickey and McAndrew dominating in the ruck.

Konstanty and Vickery can't seem to get the ball or have any impact.

Stephens playing on-ball and struggling, even at this level. It doesn't look good for a 4th year player.

Frankston look well organised and defending well. The Swans are having trouble moving the ball and getting good looks inside 50.

Stephens isn't going that badly and I quite like that they're playing him as an inside mid. I assume that they want him to improve his contested ball and tackling.

Tend to agree with the rest of your assessment.

Thought it was a pretty good effort in that quarter.

Not sure why we made Collis captain? He's a relentless turnover machine.

Why are people writing Stephens off? Had a solid finals series last year. Agree he is probably in Vel to improve his intensity and contested ball. Will be back soon. Too talentedto stay out for too long. Paft of his development.
