I have heard quite the opposite. We had him at the table and low balled him. He then started exploring the Adelaide option. We increased the offer but was too late by then.

Would be absolutely mad not to look at Crouch if available, helps address our clearance issues . Allows Parker to play a bit more forward we’re he can be quite damaging and a hard match up . Allows flexibility for Mills also . Another number running through the midfield might also address our fade outs. Allows Sheldrick to work on his tank more
Here everyone saying we already have plenty of midfield depth but the numbers all year tell a different story .
We simply can’t be happy with the same set up from this year . Pressure for spots in the midfield is a good thing

Just reflecting on our GF last year

I suspect Crouch maybe considered a finals series type of player also ie when the game is locked in and a trench battle

I think both above contentions are correct - contracts offered during the year of various types and lots of vacillating but originally money wasn't as good as Adelaide but was eventually matched by Sydney. As for the exploring - not the case - Adelaide were exploring with him from the moment he started to rise as they do with most ex-SA players - always ready to jump in if any signs of weakness from other clubs

However the original post was about his character - 2-4 weeks before end of season he has a presser and lets swans fans know they have nothing to worry about - has end of season exit interview with staff with no mention of his leaving - within a WEEK of arriving back in SA for holidays he informs he is not coming back (not face to face) - furthermore he/agent then leaks his "version" of private talks with Horse - which Horse refutes in the media. I can see why swans never thought of him as captaincy material but a club that reinstates someone like Taylor Walker so quickly does - clearly a club/town that "worships" their footy players eg Ricciuto

He signed new 2 year deals in June of 2017 and June of 2019, both halfway through the final year of these contracts. I can't find anything referring to new negotiations until their absence was reported on the AFL website in May 2021. May is pretty much on the same schedule again - halfway through the final year of his contract.
So when do you believe the club began making offers to Dawson?

I hadn't even raised the possibility - but seeing as you raised the subject, what is this blameworthy action to which you allude?

              Love the passion everyone

But I’m moving on Re Dawson as he doesn’t fit in now to this 2023 list management thread. Would have loved to keep him and he was a difficult player/skill set to replace…..but that is history now sadly.

I still think a lot of our supposed woes in the midfield would be settled if Horse, whom I otherwise love, just parked Mills in there and let him go to work. I mean, he only won AA in a grand final side predominantly playing midfield . . .

Agree; it’s a frustrating episode in the club’s recruiting history, but he’s part of yesterday for us now.

To be fair to Horse, I suspect Mills has been bashed up and sore for large parts of the season, especially the second half.

And while the idea of playing him on Hawkins in the first Geelong game probably wasn't the best idea ever, it was possibly Hobson's Choice.

Tom Browne reported on Channel 7 that the Swans are front runners for McKay, ahead of Essendon. I'm worried we are going to pay him too much.

I have looked at Suns need for points . Cal Twomey (august reviesZ) has walters at 2,reid at 9 rogers at 12 with the 4th academy player grham not in top 30.Suns dont have the popints to match the top 3 let alone graham. maybe we could tradde our pick 22 ,30 and 41 for their pick 4 Thereby giving us 4 and 11 and 49. Forget about Crouch and McKay . Dudoro (dons) said about Mckay only at the right price and for me he is too slow. Lets chase o'sullivan and sanders (a key def and a mid (larke medalist) to fill our needs Then Caiden cleary with sheldrake filling in .
Using this resource: AFL Draft Pick Value Calculator
Picks 2, 9 and 12 would be worth 5254 points (full value) or 4203 points (with 20% discount). The Suns current picks are worth 4507 points. So they have the points but it includes their first-round pick which they will trade.

Picks 22, 30 and 41 would not be sufficient for pick 4. Those picks are about 150 points less than the value of pick 4. If we're making a trade like this, one of our future picks would be on the table to balance it.

This is why I believe such a trade would include our first-round pick as well. A possible trade would be 11, 30 and 49 for pick 4 plus a possible swap of later picks. The Suns could then on-trade pick 11 for additional points. We would hold 4 and 22, a good draft hand.

Whilst McKay and Crouch may be “free” in terms of draft picks, overpaying them will cost us when we need to extend Gulden, Logan, Rowbottom, Warner etc, and money will run out and someone we value will ask to leave.

You also have disgruntled players. How would Tom McCartin getting say $600K PA feel about McKay getting $800K and being injured half the time?

I wouldn't be worried about anything that Tom Browne says, until by some strange fluke, it actually looks like happening.
