Just read in an "The AGE" trade talk article (which I won't paste link in fear it will stuff up thread). It mentions we're also interested in out of contract Melbourne midfielder James Jordan, taken pick 33 in the 2018 draft. Turns 23 in December. 187cm (6ft 2in) at 82kg. Fits the big bodied midfielder build. Has played 57 games, mainly as sub.

From what we can gather in the media, we're in the hunt for the following positional players:

Rucks: Grundy (Soldo as plan B?)

KPD: McKay (Tom Doedee as plan B?)

Midfielders: Matt Crouch & James Jordan.

Would like to think we have more targets secretly up our sleeve, knowing club will be active this trade period.

Jordan is a better age, havent followed him closely.

Not keen on grabbing a guy that has suitors coming off a knee, could very well go eitherway

I don't think Jordan is a "big bodied midfielder" as such. He's mostly played on the outside for Melbourne at AFL level. He's a possible like-for-like replacement for Stephens. He's not a Tom Green or Marcus Bontempelli or Patrick Dangerfield or Josh Kennedy type.

Doedee, if the club were interested, isn't the answer to our short term KPD issues. Partly because he's not tall enough, and partly because he will miss most of next season. That doesn't mean he has no value to us. We need to replace about half of our regular defensive unit over the next few years, with Rampe, Cunningham, Fox and Lloyd all probably in the twilight of their careers.

I like the way you are going here KSAS. The only other players I would look at are Lycet from Port in preference to Soldo, subject to a fitness test. This is assuming Grundy is going to PA. The other advantage is he may be a free agent, and if not he would not cost much.
I would also look at Elijah Hollands from the Gold Coast as a big bodied midfielder. He was highly regarded and taken at pick 7, and is recovering from an ACL.

Don’t know if he’s any good but Hollands is allegedly gettable. FWIW might have been a top 3 draft pick if not for his ACL.

Is not the reason that Port are interested in Grundy because Lycett is pretty much cooked?

Just heard on SEN radio that it is 100% certain that Couch will be at Sydney next year. Not sure which commentator it was, so cannot say if its has a credibility issue.

Liz you may be correct and that is why I stipulated subject to a fitness test. He is only 30 and recently had surgery to the knee that has been an issue all season, in a bid to prepare him for the finals. It may be worth keeping an eye on him.

I don't see the benefit of getting Crouch. Would be purely a depth player to cover injuries.

If he was on our list right now, who goes out for him next week? No one.

Wicks and Clarke for a start.

Not relevant to the question of whether Crouch is a good idea (I'm not against recruiting him), but Wicks had a pretty decent outing last weekend. Played on Salem, kept him to a single possession in the first half (which was in the first few seconds of the match) and just 8 possessions for the whole match. Wicks's own possession count was similar to Salem's but he laid nine effect tackles and kicked a gutsy goal.

So you aren't bringing Papley and J Mac in? You would rather Crouch than either of those two?

Wonder if it was Sam Edmund who said it was a formality Tom Barass was coming to us!

Sammy also had Luke Parker definitely leaving Sydney two years ago. In fact, he was reporting on the supposed contract impasse days after the Swans had actually signed the deal, but we’re waiting to announce. One of the great gibberers who I think largely takes wild speculation on bigfooty, turns it into “whispers”, and then a week later it’s gospel.

Matthew Nicks confident Crouch is staying according to this

“We want Matty at the footy club and I think he wants to be here, I’m reasonably strong on the fact we both want to get this done,”

Nicks provides update on two out-of-contract Adelaide free agents
