I haven't heard any of the "footy experts" even attempt to explain why this is the case.
Agree with all that. Its not a personel issue.

Grundy would shift he needle more than Mckay, happy if we chase both.
Very exposed if we cant land them from a reliability perspective.

I rate Ladhams and Pelican but we couldnt go into a season relying on either

That will help if announced etc for anyone else we are negotiating with ie to show we are on track to fixing the few areas needed with the necessary experienced players

Even if we get two out of the three areas that will help us lift again for a 2024 campaign while still having a nice doorway into the draft talent on offer

Not too fussed with the draft.

Grab Cleary, add him to Buller, Arnold, Sheldrick, Konstanty and that is enough youth coming thru on top of an already very young side.

Appears the boys have already starting enjoying their off-season.
Heeney and Amartey crashed my brother's house party and were locked in the bathroom...

KSAS, I am with you all the way on this. My information from a reliable source is we have the salary cap space to pull this off, and we certainly have the draft capital to get it done.
In the scheme of things Grundy does not cost that much with Collingwood paying a big chunk of his contract for the next three years.
If we can snare Grundy and McKay and one other, we could still end up holding our first round draft pick which we could use on the best available player, and also pick up Geary later in the draft.

Punishment for being D & D? Or punishment for losing Elim Final?

News is that Essendon are moving heaven and earth to get McKay. That tells me he is no good if they rate him.

I am ok with picking up Grundy but no more trades.

I find this a strange comment. Surely it is in the best interests of the club to strengthen the team in any way we can.
Fortunately I think the club has different ideas, and Longmire indicated this in his press conference following the game on Friday night, and he clearly stated we plan to be active on a number of fronts in the coming trade period.
We have seen Collingwood, Brisbane, and Carlton very active in this area in recent years, all with good results

Yes, agree on all accounts. There have been, and remain some, reasons for it, but we've underutilised the trade / free agency market for very good / elite players over the last ten years.

Well that's really poor on their part. No wonder they underperform.

I completely disagree. The club has traded heaps of All Australians, Brownlow winners, club captains, club leading goal kickers etc over the last ten years. We are experts at it, I don't know of another team who has achieved what we have with trades/retention.

                          - Tim Membrey, leading goal kicker x 3, best clubman x1,
                          - Jordan Dawson, All Australian, club captain
                          - Tom Mitchell, Brownlow, MVP, possible 2023 premiership?
                          - Aliir Aliir, All Australian
                          - Nic Newman, All Australian 44 man squad x 1, best clubman x2
                          - Toby Nankervis, 3x premierships, club captain
                          - Darcy Cameron, possible 2023 premiership?
                          - Shane Mumford - club champion

Just waiting to see what Darcy Cameron and George Hewett achieve now!

                            Barry,
Can we assume you will now offer the same criticism of all other AFL clubs who do the same thing at the end of a long and arduous season. Yes the players are well remunerated, but they make a lot of sacrifices throughout the season. It is a tradition to let your hair down at season end, and it is a lot of fun. Remember in about 8 weeks they will be back in pre season training. Give them a break

To be honest I don't see that Barry was actually criticised the club? I think he criticised two players behaviours - but missed the club criticism you've spotted BRS328.

Personally I'm not worried what they do on holiday. Just so long as they present themselves professionally when they return to work.

Spot o Mal- 180 degrees the other way would have been a little better but maybe we needed a learning curve?????

Seriously though, we’ve gone into our shell after getting Buddy (and Tippett) and I can’t think of anyone we traded in who made an impact. If Mensa is the closest, heaven help us!

Our management has to be very active in the trade period getting at least 1 top player in- relying on drafts only is a long term strategy and carries a fair amount of risk. With the unfair restrictions placed on us we’ve done well but not enough to have a team to be feared, which is what we all want.

No point: persevering with players who are only average at best- let them go for their sakes as well and let’s upgrade. It is obvious who they are so I won’t spell it out- some will say they have a role to play but we can’t win a flag with any weaknesses in the team. Let’s face it, we came 8th which was a great result after the injuries etc we endured but now we have to toughen up all around and this includes Horse as well.

We’ve done very well to make finals for so many years, but now I’m sorry it’s no longer enough. Our management’s foremost task is to assemble a team capable of winning a flag and we don’t have that at present. Of course there are 17 other teams having the same ambitions but we are closer than the bottom 8 and only 2-4 top players short. Surely this can be done over 1-2 years- KB and Co go for it or call it a day!!
